What do you guys make of this whining noise thats coming from this 2F engine? The engine was rebuild about 10,000 miles ago, all accessory belts have been removed to try and locate the source, with no luck. We think the sound is coming from the timing gear in the front of the engine. The truck runs and idles great with plenty of power. Any ideas, or is this a non-issue???????????

Did you replace the cam gear when you did the rebuild?

I could not hear a specific noise that would help me identify what it is. Did this noise just start happening? You say you disconnected the belts yet there in the video is a connected belt? You can run the motor for a short time with the water pump belt off, try that. If it is the water pump or alt that would be an easy fix.

The sound is the whining you hear when the engine is rev'ed up. Engine was rebuild by previous owner so no telling what's been replaced. All belts were removed and the engine was run and the whining was still present.

Mine makes a very similar whining noise....

Does yours go away when you push in the clutch??

Mine doesn't go away when the clutch is engaged. I'm thinking it maybe the timing gear, if it was a cam bearing issue, I think I would see a change in oil pressure and I'm getting 45psi at idle and 65 psi at 2-3000 rpm. The noise has been present ever since the truck was purchased 300 to 400 miles ago.

I resolved the issue by selling the truck!

This might be old news but mine made the exact same noise. It turned out too be the distributor. Pulled it and replaced with a OEM and poof the noise was gone.
