Just got back from the ONSC Christmas party with new motivation. Spent the last two nights in the garage and I think I’ll be able to start spraying paint next week.

Removed the last area to address rust. Behind the Rain gutter on the A pillar. Decided to just remove it and smooth out the pillar with out it. It was all surface rust but removing it was the right call.

Several weeks ago I got my seats back from the Amish guy in Tennessee. Used more of the Sunbrella fabric with boat vinyl.

Had a few people ask about the progress. Here’s how Jack sits. Doors have been striped and about 97% ready. Fenders were stripped, and waiting in primer ready for color. I need to get the passenger rocker welded in, and cap off behind the rear tire.

Gotta ask…where’s this Amish guy in TN?
35°21'36.0"N 87°17'31.6"W

For anyone that may seek his services. There’s no phone number, obviously doesn’t work on Sunday, and he’ll send a post card when he’s finished.

Watch out for horse and buggy’s. They only have 1hp.

AND how much does he charge for this sorcery?
$150 for each front seat and $200 for the rear.

I can't figure out if I should make an Amish joke or write down this guy's info.

If you make an Amish joke, there’s a 99.9% chance he won’t see it here on the internet.

^^^ Nah, I’m pretty sure the internet has an Amish Mode like modern appliances have a Sabbath Mode. /s
Amish mode = power cut

Well I’m going to try to do the same thing to my bench seat and if I can find an upholstery shop to do similar work here in North Carolina I will be sure to post it up.

Actually, who ever did Eric forest bench; which is also very similar to Austin’s did a great job and I’m pretty sure that shop is located here in NC.

Passenger slider welded in.

Not sure what to call it but Had a local fab shop remake the piece the holds the gasket behind the lower part of the tailgate. Previous piece was spot welded and about 18 ga. The new one is 16ga and attached with more of the 3M 8116. I won’t have to ever worry about water getting behind it and ever rusting out like the old one.

On the square tube sliders, did you weld to the body cross-support/drop things on the back side? Or chop those out?
The back side is still there. I cut the bpillar brace in the rocker, bent it up out of the way and rewelded it. This let the 2x4 sit in there evenly. On the back side (of rocker) I drilled 1/2” holes on the low side of the stamping, then went underneath and did plug welds down the back side of the 2x4. I think there may be 6-8. (Can’t remember exactly)

Added red dots where I drilled for plug welds.

On the passenger side I actually used a combination of this same technique with the 3M 8116 referring to 3Ms application process with plug welds. When I did the Driver side i didn’t have the 3M 8116 so the metal was treated with weld through primer.

Currently traveling, but when I return later this week, I’ll snap some photos underneath.

New year. New paint is coming. Wrapped up the last of the rust removal.

Trimmed the bottom and capped the bottom off with 16ga first. Made it easy to weld the inside.

Duplicated the application process from
The other side on a smaller scale. This QP was in much better shape and only needed a small section.

Taped Jack up, turned up the heat, wet the floors down and sprayed some color in the air.

It’s far from perfect but perfect for me. It was hard to eliminate all the dust and I have some orange peal to address. Once when the paint cures I’ll give it a good cut and buff.

I have so many hours into the truck, I see every imperfection. At the end of the day when I’m getting to use it as I built it for I’m not gonna care.

Looks great!

Lookin good. Almost looks white in the pictures, like a baby moonshine on little 37s 😆
Ha. Definitely a correlation with the size of the 60 and the strength of the brown water to be served off the tailgate.

Test drive to Lynchburg upon Jack's assembly. Seems fitting.
