Wow, so those pins can just be crimped in to the wiring that comes with the new head unit?

Much more economical solution vs. buying repair wire!!!
That's the plan, yeah. I though about going thr route you did, with making a conversion to the LC style setup, but decided it's probably more work than necessary. I'll likely go with a Pioneer HI, since I know them well and have had great luck with them. With thst in mind. I can get another radio side harness for cheap if I ever need to remove it from the LX. This will also save some space behind the HU for add-ons if I ever need any. I've kind of been eyeballing some OBDII scanners that are plug and play with Android Auto, you can get real time readings from various computers in the vehicle. Being in the VW/Audi world for ages, I've come to appreciate real time data, lol. I haven't seen a whole lot on what they can read on vehicles of this era, but even basic info could come in handy while out in the middle of nowhere.

I've also looked into the whole tablet style HUs, that take place of the HVAC controls, readio, etc. I can't say I'm totally sold on something that large, but the extra features are tempting...

If I can find the time, I'm playing with some ideas for either a raspberry Pi or arduino type control board for some other features. The space behind the radio should be sufficient for what I need if I go with mech-less HU or the tablet style.

One of the main things I'd like to address, most of my VWs folded in the mirrors when the vehicle was turned off, since the Lexus has a button for thos, it should be relatively easy to tie in a control board to make them automatically fold in or out on acc power. That's a whole other thread though, lol.

Spent some time wiring stuff the other day. Here's what I've learned. Pioneer decks don't fit great unless you use RCAs with very short shielding on the head (I used some old quick change RCAs that stick out rather far and had a hard time getting the HU in far enough to full seat. my HU had a mute wire, and the LX shows a mute wire at position 15, while testing I did not have it connected and was getting a slight hum and some random pops from the speakers. After wiring up the two mute wires, the hum went away and the sound quality was much cleaner. I couldn't find anything on the "Beep" wire or what it's intended use is, so I left it alone. The HU is amplified and I wanted to use the LX amp since it has a driver for the sub and there is not a good bypass for the amp without doing a lot more wiring than I have time for right now. This being the case, I opted for using the Line level (ish, they are still powered on my HU, but only very slightly. I think this was causing the hum that the mute fixed). The plug from Corsa worked perfect and was fairly easy to get set up. I highly recommend using high quality automotive crimpers if you can, as it will make getting the crimped wires in the plug easier. I moved recently and haven't finished setting up my shop area so I was stuck with some general electrical crimpers and they worked, but I have a lot of years of experience using the wrong tool... The trim on the LX was very easy to remove and a basic trim removal tool works just fine, I haven't hooked up cameras yet, waiting on them to come in, but I'll add some details when I get to that stage. I ran my mic to the same spot pretty much everyone else has and did a parking brake bypass because I hate the way Pioneer locks even basic settings down. I'll run my reverse trigger when I do the camera, but I'm going to setup the camera to always be powered when the car is, this way I can switch to it at any time, rather than just when in reverse. I have loads of speaker wiring left over from my days in the audio world ( save everything, you never know when it'll come in handy) so I just used some wire of roughly the same gauge for the RCAs. It's not by any means my finest work, but it'll do for now. Eventually I'll redo all of this with better quality wiring and add some additional features/components, but for now I just needed some tunes in the truck for daily use...

This post was a while ago, but do you happen to still have the wiring diagram for a '99 that you're able to share?
I do, but I’m visiting family right now.

Tlcfaq.com has a lot of the info posted, or I can scan/photo when I get home.

I ordered two of the Technica plugs to see about the fit as well... Rather than buy expensive crimpers I might try the junkyard and see if I can scavenge a harness with these same pins to make a new harness with color-coded wiring to match the Lexus wiring.

Please let us know how this works!

Well I have three connectors with enough leads to make two harnesses but I can't for the life of me figure out how to de-pin them. They are REALLY snug in there. I've de-pinned other toyota plugs before and I have a depinning tool but it's not working. Short term, I'll probably just cut up the plug to get the pins out. Longer term, finding a decent crimper seems to be the best way to go but I'm not spending hundreds of dollars on one!

That is sad to hear! I do not think I tried to de-pin my factory harness connector, I just used the new repair wire parts and they slid in to the new connector and felt "true".

What Pioneer HU did you go with?
My memory is that mine had pigtail pre-amp outs, so that made space back there less of an issue...

I have lots of info on wiring at the beginning of this very thread!

EDIT - I just realized your post was from almost a year ago! Sorry I missed...

Were you able to de-pin?

Not yet! I haven’t given up though! I’m trying to figure out a way to cut the plastic housing without damaging the wires.

I have the right terminals and connectors if anyone wants them. I can’t get the crimp good enough and refuse to buy a $300+ crimper to do it!

I decided to go to the junk yard and found a few prius that had the correct male terminals. I de-pined it over the weekend. I'm going to solder connect them in and use the connecter mentioned earlier.

Working on some pin connections and hoping for some pin clarification. Are pins 1&2 constant power while 10 is switched power?

My stereo harness is asking for both.

How did you depin them? I have some connectors as well but no luck depinning them. Do you have a special tool?
