Enought for my 2H .. ?

Hi David,
The turbo that comes with the turboglide is a bit bigger. Also, they sell different sizes for 3B and 2H, same as AXT.
However that does not mean yours is not big enough :D

Where will yopu mount the intercooler? I would suggest to do the turbo first, then tune it and optimize it, then add the intercooler. Like this any potential issues are easier to narrow down.

Looks great!

David,
What are you using for a manifold? The turbo I have (i believe it's an old Safari unit) is a little larger as well, but I (and a few other cruiserheads) thought long and hard about running a turbo from a mercedes 300 series which looks about the same size as what you have posted. Without the a/r numbers it's all speculation, but you might like the fact that the turbo spools sooner than a bigger one.

You've been talking about turboing the old 2h for some time, I am happy to see you finally getting to do it!!!!

Thanks mates for comments are really very apreciated ..

My intercooler idea is to boost 10 - 14 lbs .. with a manual - remote ( electronic ) boos controler with 2 setups the stock 10 lbs .. and the  nasty one with 14 lbs .. but this come in a second step.

In the same way intercooler make less piping over the entire setup .. so I thought I gonna do all at one time ! one shot !

I'm very very very happy .. maybe is start next week when I decide for one intercooler, and I get in my hands the boos gauge.

The other issue is, I really hate driving over 2500 rpm in my 2H .. so If I get theboost sonner is so better, but just wondering if I gonna loose boost or air flow at hight rpms . ?

David,What are you using for a manifold?

Intake or exaust .?

In the exhaust section O would make one piece like this one

in my intake section don't know yet ..

How .. i'ts a process dude .. geting the money and time .. but now my christmas gift come strong !

looks great IMO. I have done a couple intercoolers with the cummins. What determines the intercooler is space in the actual truck IMO. I would measure measure measure, see where you want to put it and carefully get the dimensions of each before you buy. Also make sure you measure for the ports.. It would be a bummer since you have to ship all the way down there. Neat enough though. For what its worth, I think the benefits will be mild possibly hurt it if the intercooler is too big, if your EGTs are already decent it might not be worth it to put it in. Also ports on that turbo and on the intake for the 2H are small so I would try to match with the intercooler, otherwise you will need some weird adapter pieces. We got all ours at www.intakehoses.com who has been great, 3 orders from them now, more to come :) Intercoolers are neat bling factor thing but possibly overkill IMO. Some people have reported bypassing their intercoolers and better performance.. It is not always a good thing for what its worth...

mmmm very interesting issue ..

In my mind I don't have a really huge intercooler .. I'm still thinking in a little one, coz my turbo are not really huge as you can see ..

Also I'm plan 3" exhaust pipe .. to keep cool the EGTs .. I'm not sure about the 2H intake diameter .. comments .?

I used manderal bent exhaust tube for my IC pipes on th F350. Cut to fit and weld them up.

Cool thread!!! Keep us posted on what you do (with pics).

Cheers,

Hey there,

I would recommend using the smallest size piping you can get away with. I dont know what size the 2h intake manifold is but on a 3b it is 2 1/4 inches. In my situation 3 inch piping was a waste. You do not get any benefit from the excess size. The turbo has to pressurize these pipes and intercooler to 10-20 psi and any excess in diameter of piping, or excess of volume of intercooler will be wasted in turbo lag.

When I first put an intercooler on someone told me 'bigger is better' so I went with a powerstroke intercooler off a big nasty diesel Ford. To make a long story short it took about 15 seconds to build up 10lbs of post intercooler pressure, which was excessive for me. Needless to say I switched my 3 inch piping to 2.5inch and added an aftermarket supra intercooler. Things have been golden ever since.

I would go with the size of your intake manifold. My guess is that 2 inch or maximum 2.5 inch would be the way to go. I went 2.5 as this matches my intercooler.

The turbo is still the number 1 best upgeade I have done and the intercooler ranks number 3 (next to lockers)

Hope this helps and have fun.

Dave

get an intercooler that is mapped for your system. too big and it creats further turbo lag. too small and it will not do the job properly.
talk to a shop that knows what they are talking about, well worth the few pennies to gain the wealth of information these guys have learned over the years.

What do you think about this ..

rocks !

Hey I recognise this turbo! Its a member of the outerlimits4x4.com board, Carts old 60 that has since been sold..

If you do a search for turbo 2h, you will find heaps of posts.

I used to own an turbo/intercooled hj60. It had a front mount intercooler.

Oil feed line ran from a t piece that was added to the oil pressure sender fitting.

Oil return ran from the turbo into the rear passenger side pushrod cover.

My old cruiser:

Hope that helps.

Tapage, you might find some useful information there in the toyota section for what you are after.

Well thanks for comments .. I don't have a really " knoweledge " turbo shop here .. but I'm still searching and learning .. I like it !

Ok I decide go with 2.5 piping .. easy now I thought I gonna order from summit some 3" exhaust set .. ( generic ) coz was no mandrel available here in Panamá and pretty hard some 3" piping for exhaus in any shop.

Thanks for those links Wayne .. I gonna read it ..

for now I found this intercooler .. what do you think . ?
