I'm little worried here coz my wastegate is too close ( IMOP ) to the block and exhaust manifold .. what do you think .. ? heat considerations with the wastegate . ?

I thought I gonna try without an intercooler and adjust the wastegate.

I helped Tapage install the turbo along with my crew. The install went pretty well. Although the intercooler setup is not as clean as we'd like. We ran into some boost problems. So we tested without the intercooler to eliminate the possibility of a restriction.
Unfortunately, boost levels with the wastegate disconnected remain low around 5 psi at a high rpm under load. This is not what we were expecting, so a swap to a newer, yet same type turbo is scheduled. Just to rule out a bad turbo unit.
As the setup runs right now, it is still not enough to maintain egt levels low at higher speeds. Mostly because the pump had been previously turned up. There is some power gains and smoke levels have dropped considerably, but the gains are not up to the levels we were looking for.
Worst case scenario if the new turbo doesn't pan out, is to have a hybrid turbo unit built using the existing hot side of the turbo and a larger compresor unit. Something like a T3/T4 combination. We'll talk to the turbo guy to see whats feasable.
We would like to see at least 10 psi at 2000 rpm and egt's around 1200 at wot in 5th gear. This kind of performance we got from my 1HZ motor which we installed a 1Hd-T turbo and manifold setup.
We'll keep you guys posted on further results.

too bad about the low psi. But is the wastegate closed fully? Are you sure it is?
To me it sounds like it is open a little.
If anything the turbo should put out lots of psi but chock the engine at high rpm.
ensure forsure its closed. Even if you have to tack weld it closed. Carefull if you mig weld or electric weld though, as it could toast the bearings if you do it on the turbo. Make sure the ground clamp is right beside the welding part.

The latest update,
We installed a new turbo from another kit I had lying around. Ran it with the wastegate disconnected to check max boost. The new turbo definitely responds better. It builds boost even in 2nd gear, Around 4 psi, which it didn't do previously. In high gear we could maintain 7 psi at a sustained 3000 rpm. And th egt's have stopped rising and maintain at about 1250 to 1300 F at WOT.
Performance has improved, but boost is still nonexistent at lower rpms. Our turbo guy says that to improve response at lower rpms, we needed a lower A/R in the hotside of the turbo. Thus with the smaller exhaust impeller, the compressor side would spool up sooner and build more boost. We'll drop off the old turbo to have it checked and see about the possibility of a lower A/R exhaust housing.

I was in the turbo shop talking with our turbo guy expert this morning with the old turbo ( the first one that i run ) and he claims not properly sealed waste gate. I keep my fingers crossed in this bet ..
We check the spring in the wastegate and seems to be really soft .. maybe a reazon to get low boost at hight rpms ..
If it not function I thought need to go with T3/T4 option .. coz I want more boost !!!!!
remove the actuator arm on the wastegate, or disconnect it. then take some wire and wire the wastegate firmly in the closed posistion. Then take it for a ride. That will be the MAX boost that it can produce.
It may be you don't need the wastegate for anything. The turbo may only be capable of producing 14 or less PSI. But you will not know till you force that wastegate in the closed posistion.

yesterday we have the visit of the turbo expert guy in the garage .. and adjust the waste gate again .. it seems to produce more boost now .. ( I'm so happy to ear that noise . . ! wwiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnn )
But can't take a ride coz my cruiser is geting air in the line ( or lack of presure by the pump ) at some point .. today the mechanix is dealing with it to take a ride and test again ..

Does your engine have a valve cover vent that is vented back into the intake system somewhere? My 13B-T does and alot of engines do. I would recomend removing this vent from the intake and let it vent overboard somewhere. All the crap and oil that is in the air being vented from the valve cover will get into the turbo compressor side and then travel into the intercooler coating everything with oil. This to me can't seem to be a good thing as it will, I'm sure, slow the air flow. Hope it all works out for good and you get what your looking for. It is nice to be able to increase the boost for the hill climbs, my 70 climbs hills better than my V6 Tacoma.

Yap .. my 2H have this vent .. you can see in this pic ..
from valve cover to the intake tube ( the black one that goes from the filter to the turbo intake )
So the question is .. if I don't vent this air to the intake .. what do with it . ?

What it the main reason to place it back to the inkate ( in the factory setup ) .. ?
The reason we didn't vent the valvecover to the ground is that we wanted to prevent water and mud from finding its way in the engine , cause we have many water crossings and muddy trails down here.
I figured that routing the gases pre turbo and after the filter, would prevent this and keep the system sealed from outside debris. Aside from that, the turbo should pull some vacuum in the crankcase and help in the ring sealing dept. Most of the oil vapors will be burned as fuel.
Down side is that these engines usually lose some oil as they run, but thats what the dipstick is for. check your oil...

One thing I noticed with the way I routed my vent tube is that you will smell this vented air when sitting still or driving slow if the winds are blowing the wrong way. So, I will be extending my vent to the rear to hopefully reduce this. It does drip a very little bit when you park somewhere, so in my garage I just put a drip pan under the vent so as to keep the drips off of my floor. I haven't really noticed too much of a oil lose between oil changes since doing this.
