I tried using the stock air box with my LQ4 swap and kept getting lean codes from the ECU at high speeds. Here’s a good read:
Actually it’s post #12 that I was trying to copy, not my El Cheapo post. The whole thread is worth reading tho.
Thank you. Will have a look.

I modified the lid to take a 4 inch hose, cured my airflow problem

My MAF is 3". What's the reason to have 4" intake tube if there is a 3" restriction.
It’s the sharp 90 degree angle that contributes to air restriction. The 4” elbow helps with that.

Exhaust all tacked up ready to be welded together.
Driver side I routed above marks adapter, and then to the muffler. Passenger side is a straight shot to the muffler.

Everything is above frame rails. 3" dual would have been possible if I was more determined!

Exhaust turned out to be more involved than I wanted, but I am happy with the results. Can't wait to hear it.

My exhaust also dumps right there. It's loud as Hell.
Had my exhaust dumping there for a few years and it wasn't bad, but it was 1FZ-FE. I can add the second muffler if needed later.

A little bit of an update. Weather turned wet slowing down the progress.
Radiator shroud is done. I used a universal kit from summit, but ended up modifying everything. Making one from scratch would have been a smarter move.
Universal shroud all cut up.

Test fit before welding.

I don't weld aluminum at all and it shows!

Installed.

The shroud took unexpectedly long time to make.

A question for experienced swappers!
Is this port suitable to connect steam vent from the heads? I don't think I saw that done, but I could be very wrong on that.

Yes. I have the LQ4, so mine routes through the steam port on the throttle body.

Most likely I will bypass the throttle body and connect to the nipple on the radiator that I pointed to on the picture above.

Modified airbox lid with a smooth 3.5" elbow.
Seeing a lot of guys reusing the stock setup I hope it wasn't a wasted time.

Discovered that one of my lid clips is missing. Without the center stud and the nut the lid isn't staying in place. Need to do something about that.

Just ordered a new valve. Was worried that it will cost me an arm and a leg... Turned out to be $60 shipped from japan.
Slowly assembling everything.
Radiator hoses, intake tube all done. PCV done.

Wiring is next. Ordered 10' of 2ga cable for the starter. Need to read up on what to do with the remaining toyota wires. Like this alternator plugs.

The lid clips are available new OEM
