What a great trip! Thanks for sharing.

Boots, it was a great trip, among lots of small trips this summer.

mmm you have one nice looking cruiser! Awesome rides over there, different build ideas are refreshing. Looking at this 60 on the right, Jeep cherokee fender flares?

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e6/palsp/NLCK Frya 2010/DSCF2280.jpg

i really like them whatever they are!

Thanks! Lots of different builds here, true.
The flares on the 60 you see there is the oem ones from hj61.
I got the same flares in the garage, copied in glassfiber. 2" ish wide.

Also, my friend in that 60/61 (it has a tuned 12HT, won the land cruiser drag) inspired my rear bumper design. He has done some awsome work on that cruiser...

here goes the bumper build and rear chop...
Had lots of visions and plans, but scrapped all that and worked something out with what i had!
Not all that satisfied with the shape, but it works.
Just using 2x4" steel i had laying aroud, would love to add some solid plate (wich i dont have) to add a litte arb-angles and style, but once i add paint, tow points and diamond plate, it'll be okay.
I'll cut down the side sliders to 3" tall, they got the "sag look".

The shape idea was for it to still function as a step, but retracted in the middle for easy access to the hitch.
The 2" receiver is moved up 4" and forward 5". better angle back there now. still a lot overhang, but as good as it gets, can still drag it over rocks.

Progress...slow progress...

Rear quarter... mud is filling up.... better get it out...
DSCF2373.jpg

Ideas are welcome!
When sliders are added, tube will be steps/protection both on the slider and the quarter protection.
Later on i'll add a swing down tire carrier, on the DS.
Now i need to get a lot sorted in two weeks, wheeling weekend! :steer:

Norway

Rims look fantastic! My new thing is grey with black on my white rig. Yours looks awesome!

What are you looking for in terms of ideas, how to seal up the quarter panels?

First, thanks... glad you liked them! There are so many different shades of gray, why did they even make colours?

Second...i'm patching the rear up today or tomorrow. just gotta get some 0.8 thread for the MIG, and clean the area up.
I'm making a big flat U profile that fits nice up there. carosol from inside, welded outside.

Still fiddling with the bumper.

all praise TLC norway and his badass cruiser!!

Close up of shaped alu...

One of many brackets to hold the bumper. Okay heat while welding.
DSCF2428.jpg

Had to take the tires for a spin, they dig well and ride smooth.

Did some testing, they stuff well and all good. Now running 1" spacers.

Vacation over there? okay, i'm posting anyway... maybe i should add another separate thread on the bumper.

anyways, here is it, primed.

I cut down the quarter protection to 2,75" height, the rest of the bumper is 4"x2" dimention. Lots of work, but still worth it.

Next up is sliders and front bumper, same sleek style.
And i'll probably add some tubing to the sides for trees and steps.

This whole thing looks absolutly great

Good, and i'm glad i finally got i done. I am working on closing up the quarters bottom.
At this build, the 2" of BL that i have, is absolutely great. It allows me to tuck that bumper so nice and high, crearance is way better now. Mission accomplished.

Went wheeling this weekend, but finished my bumper and rear locker mechanism first.

Bumper done. The paint was still a tad soft while mounting, but had to go wheel!

The side protection, 2cm from body.
DSCF2529.jpg

Mounted, 10 minutes before takeoff. Nice and high!
DSCF2526.jpg

Hooked the locker acuator up with industrial wire/cable.
Welded the original grab end to the wire end.
DSCF2515.jpg

This is the one end going up front to the handle, the rubber protected end going back to the locker.
Filled the rubber pice with white water repellant grease.
DSCF2516.jpg

Made a bracket in the back, this one also protects the cable and rubber from excessive wear.
DSCF2519.jpg

Wire runs up to the frame, accross the transfer case, and shoots trough the body right in front of the driver seat.
DSCF2525.jpg

Hooks up to a modified e-brake from a lj70 with a ball mount. Right in front of the seat.
I cant tell comfort-wise if its there, i just know it! ;)
DSCF2520.jpg

Hooked up everything, adjusted the wire ends and joy, it works perfect!

The rear locker was probably used 100-200 times this weekend, everything works lovely and just the way it should!

Jeep Arctic Challenge Autumn 2010

Okay, some trip reporting...pix and vids...

Had a great time popping in and out the rear locker while the ARB guys were fiddling with their compressors and fuses in the mud.

At most, we were 40 rigs.

Supernice weekend, lots of ground to cover with great friends and funny new people!

Group11-DSCF2593_DSCF2595-3images.jpg

The rig behaved exellent friday and until some point on saturday...
Somewhere in this 1meter deep mud there was a big chunk of rock.
and i hit it whit flat skinny pedal, and went kaboom. full stop. Backed up, and took me half an hour to get me out of the hole... You can see the front locker not doing much on the PS front here:
45766knut.jpg

The PS front ended up all locked up, and i could not steer right, only left.
So i popped the smashed birf out on the spot, since i had a spare i the rig.
CIMG1466.jpg

Diagnostics told me exploded birf, fubar outer splines on the inner shaft,
terrorized knuckle housing, oil seat bent and wrecked, and another wierd round big pice laying on its side inside the axle housing, all the way into the diff.
Probably the one thing centering the inner axle when putting it into the diff.
CIMG1480.jpg

Since i had no spare inner axle on the spot, i mounted it all up and went 3WD rest of the day.
Went home after camp-time to pick up a birf and inner from the donor.
Happy moods in the camp beer-wise and people-wise. Got pretty cold outside, so i drive the rig into the warm tent and wrenched.
50-60 people got something interesting to watch while drinking...
CIMG1478.jpg

Since i had the spares, i did the full job on the knuckle.
Had to break the thing in the axle tube to fish it out, and filed down the seat for the oil seal to put in a new one. Nothing in there was like it was supposed to be..

DSCF2556.jpg

Sunday we went out again, new terrain and lots of great challenges, did not have time to test it all out.
I really had full use of both lockers at some climbing areas.
Not much photos, just some clips of it in the vids. Does not look real steep on vids, but the rig really impressed and took me to new levels.
The tires also did a great job, both in mud, rock, slippy stuff and scary stuff. Front 13psi and rear 11.
They ride beautiful on road, and grab and cleaned out nice in the field.
Sometimes the fully loaded 60 is just too heavy in the mud...
This pix shows me almost tipping over, into a deeeep mud hole... The picture ofcourse does not justify...

CRUISER!!
DSCF2553.jpg

Was really great, Johnny! Today my clutch started slipping, so the two upcoming events will probably stall...
But it slipped after a fun trip with a friend, crossing rivers and forest, so i'm good.

It's a perfect excuse to get on with my donor engine, and get it up to shape... ;)
There is just so many thing i'd love to do with the engine before it's popped in.

any good suggestions on hydro assist?
Was really hoping to spend more time on protection underneath the rig, sides and front...
