And did i mention a blown turbo...? Eating oil... yummy!
Just a few posers...

Wait a second, you just finished installing a new motor and blew all of that up the first trip out? Very impressive,

Well, sort of... But I did not attend to the turbo... Engine held up great!
Gotta find and sort out all the issues before the end of february, weekend snow driving then!
All the drivetrain issues was related to the skinny pedal!

That's a lot of broken parts for one day. Looking forward to the carnage pictures.

well, i did have to hammer it to get out of there.

Not much carnage pix yet, i'll see what i can do when i tear it apart.

I REALLY need some longs or something up front... now i'm down to my last spare birf...crap...

Is that what you have broken on the other birfs? I have only seen the birf ball break in the few I have seen. That cage totally broke apart, interesting.

My brother is putting the Nitro Chromoly Birfs in hopes they will hold up a bit better to the 37's. He has not broken a stock one yet though, just doing it preemptively.

Love the truck and what you have done with it, wish we had snow like that here to play in.

First time it breakes like this. This is the "better than stock" TrailGear kind.
Honestly, the stock held up better.
But the star and the birf itself is not broken, just banged up from the balls going mad in there, eating the cage up.

Thanks for the compliments. But it still needs a few MUST HAVE upgrades, a few SHOULD HAVE upgrades, and some more love. Love is what i got most of right now. Should get better along the years.

Now, i pulled the spare axle from the ever giving donor, and took a peek inside the axle housing. There it is, the one sleeve/ring/oil stopper whatever it is.
Its outer diameter is like the housing, inner diameter like the axle shaft.
Probably 2-3 inches into the housing from the outer oil seal.

This one ring was loose after my last PS birf break, and now its loose on the DS birf break.
And there is no way of getting it back to where it was unless i pull the third and make a sort of telescopic hammer to slide in there. Brain surgery....
Now, i'm gonna pull the thirds anyway, so i'll just pick the thing out.
It's objective is probably just to not have the diff oil splash directly onto the oil seal, or something...

EDIT: Maybe it's there to keep some lube in contact with the oil seal...
I'll have to do some flexing more often to keep the oil seal lubed to specs.

Anyone seen it come loose before? (this is in the donor)

Now, i'm pulling the front autolocker, putting it in the rear, where it belongs.
Then, i'm putting the cable locker up front when i can afford longs.

Should be done by tomorrow, as i'm supposed to wheel all weekend. wohoo!

I'm sure moving the locker to the rear will ease the stress on the birf's for now. I have never broken one in my 4runner that was open front. Moving the selectable locker to the front eventually will also help too as you can unlock it until needed.

Not sure if you covered it in here but what turbo do you have on there?

As I don't have the long spline inner axle shaft for the front, I can't run the cable locking third up front. And today when I pulled the third with the autolocker,i felt that the pinion needed some work.
So that means the cable locker stays in the rear.
Oh glad to be running open front again on icy roads. Was impossible to run this autolocker on the road.

The turbo is a TD04HL-15g, volvo t5 out of a 95 volvo 850.
Actually a mitsubitchy turbo. Great for the 2h.
But expensive to rebuild over here.
Should be sweet when I rebuild it and get it flowprepped to engage spool at even lower rpms.
If anything, it lacks a bit at the top rpms, but I've been happy with it for two years, so unless I find something even more suitable at a better deal, it stays.

Yup, got it all fixed, except the turbo issue. Grabbed all my tools plus lots of oil and went weeling snow this weekend.
Got to do a looot of snow cruising, so i did not get many photos.

A little video from when a friend first decided to try something else than rally cars:
With 2H Stereo:

With crappy music:

I'll gather some photos... Had a great time, no carnage!

Some sections were too deep...

That is very cool, video would have been better if you could hear the truck and turbo tho.

Did you remove that front locker for this run? Did it make much difference other than not breaking any birfs?

Okay, i get the point, but the first upload from phone did not get any sound.
Now its way better, scroll up to see it. With 2H in Stereo.

And yes, i did pull the autolocker for this run, but the plan has always been to have an manual cable locker up front.

A lot of the hillside driving is no good with lockers, you'll just slide sideways in the snow.
And with a locked front in snow with low grip, you'll just go more straight when using the skinny pedal.

The beast did absolutely great on the run, in every condition.
i ran 5 psi rear and 6psi front.

Friends of mine got more video footage, i'll see if i can get my hands on it.

ok, not too cool with all the Jeep promoting here, but is Jeep Club Norway that is the main sponsor and without their support the Arctic 4x4 would have been pretty much nothing.
So here is a tribute to them all.
Strange, there is only a few j**ps... ;)
