Be a fun build! Glad to finally see these out in the wild. Seems like they were introduced ~year ago then didn't really hear or see anything on them.

What transmission are you going to go with?

Wish I had the money to have gone this route....maybe on the next one :)

They just starting selling them to the general public a couple of weeks ago. I've been saving money for some time in anticipating the replacement of the old 327.

I'm retaining my NV4500, it's only got a few thousand miles on it. When I bought it they weren't available used so I bought a new one from AA and they converted it for my transfer case.

Is Advance Adapter’s making a bell housing to connect it to your NV4500?

I already have the bell housing. Bought it years ago from AA.

Dump question; Is it the same bell housing for the 4BT?

Thanks
Not the same. 4BT is completely different from Chevy pattern.

Don't know for sure, but I think they put one of these crate engines in a Land rover sitting on a wrangler frame on the "Extreme off-road" TV show. Will be so much cooler in a cruiser. And yet another:popcorn:

I watched that episode. That's what got me interested in the conversion.

Deal me in. I'm subscribed.

OK, tried the first (of many I'm sure) test fits.
Not too bad, but I'll need it bolted to the bell housing to be certain. I need to talk to Phoenix Casting and Machining tomorrow about the bell housing and flywheel adapters.

It almost looks like the frame mounts for the 327 will still work depending on the thickness of the adapter.

Two fitment issues are the oil pan and exhaust.
The engine looks a little high comparing the bell housing with the block and I can't lower the engine w/o the oil pan hitting the driveshaft.
The exhaust is on the passenger side against the frame rail. It can be clocked. I might have to clock it forward then go over the frame rail and through the running board support. Or I could do like my cousin and I were talking about yesterday and run a stack, that would simplify the exhaust routing.

I do have a lot of room to move the engine back if required. However, this would entail removing and reinstalling the torque tube, changing the transfer case support (which I'm going to do anyway), cutting the transmission cover and redoing both driveshafts...again. I'll know more when the adapter arrives.

Really disappointed in Cummins not including hard copy manuals. You have to register the engine serial number on their site and view the material online. The shipping manifest says manuals were included in the crate.

Front clearance. Not much room for the intercooler unless I move the engine back.

Main complaint I've heard about these is the plastic oil pan...any plans to upgrade this?

If someone will make a replacement, I'd sure look hard at it.
Cummins said the reason they went with plastic was because it dampened sound better and most of the noise of a diesel came from the bottom of the engine.

Not exactly true. B series engine blocks have a bolt pattern on the back designed to accept a flywheel housing. That flywheel housing can have a SBF, SBC or Dodge bolt pattern for the associated Ford, Chevy or Dodge bellhousing. They're like legos. Lots of people have the AA chevy to toyota bellhousing behind their 4BT with a SBC style flywheel housing.
