Could be residual left from oil changes. Kinda difficult to remove the filter without dripping some oil about.
I'm surprised no one has suggested the Marlin Crawler Heavy Duty axle seals to go with your front axle rebuild. They're much better than the stock pieces.
Nice looking truck.

I remember seeing talk about those seals, some say they are great, and some said they didn't fit onto the Axle shaft well.

I dunno what brand seal the Basic CruiserOutfitters kit comes with? Guess we'll see.

As for Oil changes, tell me about it. Oil goes all over everything on that side, I like the FJ Cruiser better, as the Oil filter is still straight up, but the filter seat has a lip on it with a hole, so it drains out, without making a huge mess, took Toyota 20yrs to figure that out? :p

Ulises, I will indeed take pictures, always do lol!

Huh, I ordered my kit last Friday. Haven't gotten an email confirmation and the parts haven't showed up yet.

If they don't show up tomorrow, guess I'll have to call them back and see what the deal is.

Ok. So I ordered the Knuckle kit from CruiserOutfitters today $129 shipped. Now I'm just waiting till it arrives, Didn't get an email confirmation yet though?

Gonna be tearin' it apart soon....!

Give us a ring or shoot us an email tomorrow. Check your spam folder for the UPS automated shipping notification, they often land there. We are 100% caught up on shipping in stock orders so it should be on its way. Holler at us tomorrow with your name and we'll look into it. Assuming you ordered it Friday the 31st it should have shipped that same day, Monday was a holiday and WI is 4 days from SLC so totally shooting from the hip you should see it tomorrow :D

Great news, I just got the seal kit! Everything looks good, thanks guys! First experience with CruiserOutfitters was a great one, I will be back!

Thanks again Tom, glad it arrived as planned. Now go get messy :D

Quick question, where can I get a tub of Moly Grease locally? Also, what percentage do I need for the Birfs? I want something good quality, I run Kendall Superblu for my Bearings, so I would like something on the same level.

Cheers!

I resealed the knuckle this past weekend, everything was straight forward, and wasn't really hard at all. Just very messy Lol!

I took a few pictures while disassembling.

I sanded and painted the Birf ball with High-temp engine enamel. New Trunnion bearings in, new Axle seal in (Damaged the first one) Wiper seals on.

I repacked the Birf with Valvoline Palladium, The specs on this show it has something like 10% Moly. Repacked the wheel bearings with Kendall Superblu and installed a new seal and changed the gear oil. Seems to drive just fine down the road! I took it on a 2-hour joyride, no strange noises, no leaks. Gonna check the Knuckle grease tomorrow and add more if needed.

Figured out why my throttle pedal was pretty stiff, the Kickdown cable which runs to the Throttle body seems to be binding or is just sticky. I removed it, squirted some Seafoam down it and moved the cable in and out, still stiff.

Anyone have a photo as to where it runs to on the tranny? I can't seem it locate it, and the Haynes doesn't show jack.

My plan is to remove the whole cable, and soak it in WD-40 or the like.

That kickdown cable is not as easy as it looks. You have to drop the Tranny Valve body to get at it....

Oh boy, I surely don't feel like messing with that anytime this year. I'll try and keep working lube into the cable maybe it'll free up a bit.

Chris, thanks!

FWIW: I had a 62 with a sticky kick-down cable.

I pulled the cable from the throttle body and held the end straight up.
Filled one of my boys old plastic syringes(the ones used for cough medicine etc.) with atf fluid. Used the syringe to squirt down the cable end, between the cable and the housing.
Worked the cable back and forth till it was fairly full, worked for me.

Thanks for both of these tips! I will indeed invest in a cable luber, seems legit. I will also do the syringe trick, ATF is a good idea, as its a detergent lubricant.

Just installed new HIDs from DDM Tuning. 55w 5000k 9006 with Wire harness/relay and Raptor Ballasts. I was running 35w 6000k Xentec HIDs, those are going to a friend.

I cannot even imagine how bright these are, they light up street signs during the day. Can't wait till tonight!

Chris, thanks!

I also should have mentioned I drove our '94 for almost six months before I realized the kickdown was broken inside the shielding, down where you couldn't see it. No idea how or why it broke. I always thought it shifted funny, but not badly. Until I installed the new cable!

You can probably work it with some lube like you are already thinking.

Next up, I am gonna be getting a Factory AT Cooler from Cruiser-Jimmy. THANKS!

I also want to install the Copycat Safari snorkel from Ebay, and also install an ARB front bumper. Does anyone have pictures of the ARB bumper with the ARB sliders? Can I install sliders later on, or are the two bumpers different?

Do the Sliders bolt to the bumper?

Pics would be awesome!

-Tom

Will Sliders even work on a 1991-92 80? I heard that Tacoma sliders will work, mainly because of the exhaust running down the driver side vs the passenger side on 1993-97.
