Did I hear someone mention sheep and perhaps even the chance of seeing a photo of a very special breed of one?

PS. Love the look of the new wheels/tYres Danny. - Perfect stance IMO

Yeah, it was too hot to take them... and the pictures were taken in the bowels of hell... I stopped to cool down and eat. I should have taken a dry shirt...

Glad you made it in and out OK Danny...

Danny,

Wheel color??? Are you going to keep us guessing?

Or have a vote on the colour palate? (that's for Tom-@lostmarbles)

They look great, but I would love to have a set of welded factory wheels on one of the herd.

Regards
Will

Nope... I was hoping you would tell me, Will... I'm the colorblind one here... ;)

Actually, I can tell by looking and, from the invoice, they are gloss black.

Why don't you come right out and say what's on your mind. :)

I have a set (4) of welded factory wheels, with hubcap clips, in our storage room now... but, one is warped - it's actually hanging, right now, as my spare. I was going to look into having it straightened, but never did.

My 5th wheel has a smaller centerbore (won't fit over the front hubs) - it was the spare when I bought 44. I kept all old wheels and tires, with the intent of carrying two spares. Were I to sell them, I would keep this 5th non-oem wheel and tire, I can swap tires around, in the event of a flat, and make it work as a second spare and find a used rim/tire for use as a primary spare.

I really don't know whether I want to part with them right now... but, I doubt I will ever want to put them back on... There's seldom anything to hook a winch line to... so, I need to be able to lift, using my Hi-Lift Jack and LiftMate and the oem wheels don't have holes from which to lift.

I also have no idea what shipping would be to Texas...

If you are interested, PM me and I'll place you at the top of the list, assuming I decide to sell them... and assuming we can reach an agreeable price and work out shipping... or pickup...

Tell me, in your PM, what you think they are worth and I'll check around and see what others think and make a quick decision. Also, let me know if you are interested in the 30x9.50x15LT MasterCraft Courser ATX tires that are mounted on the wheels... they probably only have a couple of thousand miles on them.

Thanks.

Well... Will (@tlc762 ) pointed out that I made it sound like I was going to paint my new wheels... No... sorry, I thought everyone knew that 44's tires and wheels stay dusty most of the time. I spend a lot of time off-pavement and quit trying to keep them clean. I seldom see mud out here... just a lotta dirt and dust. That's what my comment meant... they are clean and black, but won't be for long.

Living in southern New Mexico, I knew that's what you meant ;)

Funny you bring up stalking Big Horn Sheep. Near the little German village I live, we have Mouflon, and I thought I had seen a lamb sometime earlier, so last week I went over to that side of the mountain to see if I could spot the herd.

Little did I know that the darned tourists had completely destroyed their wildness, so my planned Mouflon stalk turned into me fleeing from the hungry buggers, after I had scratched a few heads.

Spending a lot of time in the Mojave, I understood your wheel color reference too.

I recall Ryan (@rkymtnflyfisher ) telling you to "watch your 6", not long ago...

Several years ago we were coming back from Colorado Springs by way of Flaming Gorge in south western Wyoming. My wife wanted a picture of the lake so I found a place where stopping gave us a very good view from up high. Naturally, the road had a bank cut into the hillside to our left, and we were standing on a steep drop off to our right. My wife was taking so long with the pictures that I started looking around. Can you tell the normal male thing of getting from point A to point B in the shortest possible time was the only thing on my mind?

Anyway, I noticed that rocks and dust kept rolling down the cut bank, around the corner, just ahead of us. This got my curiosity up, so when we finally got back into the van and started moving forward I was watching very carefully to see what was causing the disturbance on the cut bank. To my surprise there was a band of desert bighorns (I think) on the cut bank just above the road, not more than 50 feet from us. Needless to say, point B was completely gone from my mind. I was seeing something I had never in my life thought I would see, especially in the middle of the afternoon.

So, Danny, I truly hope that your vantage point gives you success. I am always fascinated when I get to watch wildlife. At minimum you will have a great drive with 44 and Chester, and I hope you get to see what you are looking for.

Thanks Don! I hope so too!!

We were supposed to leave yesterday, for a week of camping, with Dianna, in our travel trailer... but, I woke up yesterday with a very sore throat... so, we decided to go later... now, I think it was simply allergies... the sore throat is almost completely gone.

I'm going to adjust 44's valves in the morning... and change the oil/filter.

Well... this morning...

I got the valves adjusted and the valve cover back in place... then hit the hot tub for 20 minutes, fired up the heating pad and crawled into bed for a couple of hours... leaning over 44 was really no more painful than I expected... please, remind me of this, if I ever announce I'm going to adjust the valves again!!

Mark (@65swb45):

While leveling 44 in preparation for adjusting the valves, I aired up my BOSS air bags, to 60 psi... that raised the rear of 44 an inch and a half (over the 15psi I had in the bags already), to 35.5", at the top lip of the rear fender well.

As I mentioned before, the air bags replaced the rear bump stops... they mount in place of the bump stops... as long as I maintain a minimum of 10 psi, in the air bags, I don't see any way that the rear wires can hit the fender well lip.

I also checked the front bump stops... and found 1.25" of clearance between the front axle and the bump stop (both sides_... and 4.5" of clearance between the front tires and the top lip of the front fender well (both sides)... these pics are the passenger side, but the drivers side is the same.

Do you still feel I need bump stop extensions in the front?

Thanks!!

No Danny, in your case I would NOT recommend bumpstops with those measurements. You can see from the polish marks on top of your axles that your springs are soft, and that your stops are well acquainted already, perhaps too well acquainted. Defintely wouldn't want to shave anything off an inch and a half of up travel.

Thanks Mark... I'm not unhappy with how it drives now... as long as I don't hit speed bumps or rough roads at too high speed... but, I'm probably gonna do something at some point.

Danny, does your rig have a lift on it?

No lift, Ryan... but the BOSS air bags (on the back) allow me to raise and lower the rear about 2.5"... levels it out nicely when loaded... also eliminates Cruiser Lean.

I posted a picture of my memorial to my Father earlier... it's on the right side of my overhead cabinet... here it is again... followed by ribbons representing my Air Force awards and decorations... they are on the left side of my overhead cabinet... it's hard to get a full picture, with all the 'stuff' in 44 right now...

I know, I'm boasting... but, I worked very hard for these awards and they aren't displayed anywhere else... so, forgive me please...
