I think white lettered tires look great with the white & black paint. You did a great job restoring this 40!

To each is own I guess. It's a old school thing that I thought would compliment the 50 year old rig. And play into the black and white of the rest of the design.

Just giving you a rough time... your build is terrific!

I get it...

It's all good. I know :) Just thought I would explain my decision.

So when I get on the gas a little the exhaust/muffler sounds restricted. Kinda like trying to blow hard through a small coffee stir straw. So I talked with the local muffler shop about installing a new muffler.........ended up getting talked into a whole new exhaust system. With a flowmaster 50 series delta flow muffler. They are installing it tomorrow. The muffler is supposed to flow good / sound good but not be annoying and loud.

I installed my front driveshaft. It ended up only costing me 121 bucks to have it lengthened and balanced.

I also replaced my the pos throttle cable I got off eBay a quality Lokar throttle cable.

Got my new exhaust put on. Flow master 50 series delta flow muffler with 2 1/4" pipe from the header back. All above the frame and crossmember. Sounds gooder ;)

May want to add a turnout at the back corner - keeps the fumes from coming back inside . Just point it diagonally out to the corner of the body . Build looks great , btw...
Sarge

I asked about just that Sarge. They said because I don't have a top it should not be a issue. But I will keep an eye on it.

I just ordered my silver star

I just ordered my silver star. Not sure why I have not before. This forum Has been such a wealth of information. Such a wonderful Tool. Glad to support it.

Wow. I can't believe how far you've come!

It's been a lot of hours in the garage.

Did some little stuff today at work.
Hooked up the back up switch wiring, 4wd engaged light, heater blower motor switch. And added a cool TEQ decal to my steering stabilizer.

I installed my rear lock right but needed new thrust washers to have the correct clearance. Ordered them from Toyota. Did some looking and found a locker for the front. It's a Spartan locker. They look a little beefier than the lock right. The pins are twice the size. And have a cool way you install them that looks easy.and does not use thrust washers. And comes with a new hardened pin. I got a great deal on both my lockers. 150 delivered for the rear! From marlin crawler. It was the last one they had (the old 10 spline) and I got the front from Diffs only for 279 delivered! Can't wait to test them out!

Thanks for spending the time to post up your build this far. I just read through the thread twice, and it's a true inspiration. You have amazing style when putting the truck together: a combination of low priced parts and authentic land cruiser style. I'm taking notes for my build.

Thanks for your nice comments!

Started working in my disc brake parking brake today. I had the disc mounted on the rear of the transfer case between the flange and the driveshaft. I was hoping I could center the driveshaft still and not have any vibration. Because as you know the driveshaft centers itself on the flange with a little hub that sticks out and goes into the t/c flange........Well that did not work.

Bolted it up and went for a drive and it had a noticeable vibration. Without the disk on no vibration. So I think it best to mount the disk on the inside of the t/c flange. But it would not fit. The hole on the disk is just a bit to small to go over the hub on the flange and bolt flat.

So I was going to take the disk to the machine shop and have them open the hole up for me.....till I had a bright idea.

At work we have a rotor and drum turning machine. So I chucked the flange up in there and first tried to modify the cutter attachments to work but they just could not reach. Then I thought.... die grinder!

Spun the flange on the machine and used the grinder to cut down the flange enough to get the rotor on. Took a few try's and a few test fittings but I did it! It fits!

Little stuff like this make me happy. If I can figure something out and do it myself and not have to pay for someone else to do it, yeah I dig that!

I'm locked front and rear now!!

I installed my Spartan locker in the front end today. That was easy.
So I did not have a 54mm socket for the spindle nuts. But I did have a 2 3/8" socket I used exactly once about 15 years ago when I worked on my father-in-law's explorer. So I cut it up made it 54mm and welded it back together. Problem solved.
Worked out fine. If it was a high torque nut I would have bought the correct socket. But this will handle 45ft pounds of torque just fine.

Also changed my oil as I now have 100 miles on it.
Man that's messy on a 2F with a oil cooler. Take the filter off and oil goes everywhere. Any tips on that??
