Oh wow. I just noticed the Curnutt shock sticker on your toolbox. Ran a set of those on my Penton in about 1975. Enjoying your build also.

That's on the tool box it got from my dad. I was born in 75 and grew up riding dirt bikes in so. California.

More little stuff. Power steering cooler installed. Took a line clip off of a old dirt bike carb and repurposed it. Ignition installed.

I like the low mount driver's side alternator - what type of alt is it ? Also , which onboard welder ?
Good belt layout , I've been trying to plan pretty much the same setup for mine here this summer when I do the 60 series steering box .
Btw , 60 series steering pump ?

Hey Sarge to answer your questions.

It's the stock f motor alt.

The onboard welder is my own design. I'm using a 100A alt out of a ford full size car.

Yes I'm using the 60 box and pump.

IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!!

It runs!!! I must have done something right! lol
So excited. Lots of hard work paying off.

Here is a video of my first run breaking in the cam.

AND NO LEAKS!!!

Note: my oil pressure gauge reads 14 PSI when the engine is off. So it's not really that high.

She sounds sexy ....great job!

Today I built a crossmember. I used the stock fj60 trans mount and center section of the crossmember. Cut some 1/4" 4" x 4" angle iron to the right size and welded it in. Then built 3 gussets per side. Should be good and strong. I made sure the trans could be jacked up far enough to unbolt the trans mount and slide out the crossmember to service the trans / clutch in the future.

If I used the stock 60 side mounts I would have had to lower the trans/transfer down almost 1 1/2" so once it's all welded in you could get the crossmember out to pull the trans because it has that hump.

Decided the extra inch and a half of ground clearance was worth the time to make my own side mounts.

I also made my own transmission bypass hose. Which I found out doubles as a slick easy way to fill your transfer case :)

The trans is easy to fill. Just twist off the shifter and dump it down the hole!

After removing the boot... which on an FJ60 with carpet and a modified transmission tunnel (5 speed/ToyBox/Twin Sticks) is not so straight forward...

Took my front driveshaft in to get it lengthened. The front shaft off the fj60 was just the right size for the rear so that's awesome.

I also put the fender and bib back on. Cut off the pass side shock tower and welded on the ford shock tower. Installed a tach. And started working on the gas pedal. I ended up taking he peddle assembly off the 60 and bolted it on. Just have to fab up a mount for the cable and adjust everything.

I also started working on my custom radiator overflow bottle. It had a universal overflow bottle on it before. I just hate the look of those. Found and repurposed a old small oxygen tank. Took the wire wheel to it to spiff it up.

I like that tank idea.

I made my steering linkage today. Cut and spliced the 40 and 60 rods together. The 40 rod is smaller than the 60 but not enough to slide inside the 60 rod. So I ground down the 40 side till it slid into the 60 rod it went in about 5" and then I welded them together. Then ground it down tapered and painted it. Worked out slick.

It's back on the road!!! And it runs strong! Very happy. And it could not have been a better day for its first outing. Put 30 miles on it today. Power steering is awesome!! And no more 8" of side to side slop in the steering wheel. It's tight and responsive. 4 speed is cool. Lots of new stuff to get used to. I also mounted my homemade overflow bottle. Works good.
