Replacing the heater Ts :D

This is my 1st time in my life operating on a vehicle, other than doing the turkey baster method for the power steer fluid

Driver side done after 1 hour hahahaha i am tired of this i will leave the other side for tomorrow! You guys seriously call this a 1 banana job?? I dont think i want to do a 2 banana job!
I hated it but it is fun and gratifying :)

Thank you @hoser @Spike555 @DirtDawg :)

Any solution other than an aftermarket unit?

There is a solution to your radio problem, go to the dealer, there is a switch inside the stereo that changes the region for the tuner.
Same thing with the odometer, it can be switched to miles instead of kilometers. Simple computer program/switch for these things.
That’s what we in Michigan have to do when we buy a car from Canada. It’s easy with digital odometers, analog ones not so much.

Where did you get the replacement metal Ts from? Was it a kit someone sells?

Very helpful thank you :)

So i went ahead and did the 2nd T to get it over with. That was a B!tch to get the clamps to twist! I used body wash soap to lubricate the clamps after 45 minutes of wrestling and finally removed the T. I was afraid it was gonna break like many who did their Ts, but both look like new!

I think i will take it easy with my OCD :D and just drive the car now on the timing belt until water pump starts weeping, everything in this vehicle is good except the driveline fluids, which is expected with 100k km.

These metal Ts will last a lifetime!

I over tightened all clamps, but after i started the car, the lower clamp under the T on the left side of the pic above started seeping coolant??!!!

Coolant level in reservoir went above full mark by over an inch. I started the heater on high, front only, drove for 10 min, then checked, but no more leaks?!

I tightened it, why did it leak?

Who knows why it was seeping and then stopped. It stopped. Keep an eye on it when you do your weekly under the hood fluid check.
If your “T”s are the wrong size they will leak.

Apparently i didn't tighten that lower T hose because it was a b!tch to do. I loosened it, pulled it up a bit, then tightened it so hard that the hose was squeezed!! Tightened the others too, went offroad and this morning ZERO leaks!

I am second guessing changing the coolant because it is full, and looks bright pink, i could be throwing away recently changed coolant!

I noticed my LC doesn't have a transmission oil cooler like my LX, but i dont do towing and live in Canada so i guess it doesn't matter!

Now i feel confident tackling 2 or 3 banana jobs. If i change breaks myself, i promised to reward myself with a front bumper :)

It leaked because you put imperial sized fittings into metric sized hoses. Indeed those metal Ts should last a lifetime, longer than your engine, especially if your coolant leaks past the missized Ts and your engine overheats.

Haha, you are correct, but i squeezed them so hard now and no more leaks! I will make sure i retighten them once a year perhaps, but all is good now :)

You cannot judge coolant condition by looking at it. Coolant wears out, it lasts a MAXIMUM of 5 years OR 150,000 miles, whichever is SOONER!!!!
The additives inside the coolant wear out, the coolant should be replaced.

Ok, i guess i should flush it, this way at least i know when new coolant went in :)

Sell it and get the Patrol you’ve always wanted...sucks to see you’re having issues with such a mint 100.

Just get CV Re-boot kits, just make sure you do it before you lose all the grease from inside those boots, they look to be losing quite a bit.

New CVs will cost an arm and a leg... roughly $650 a piece..

I agree. If they are genuine toyota CV's just buy a reboot kit, and do it yourself. It's a greasy 3 banana job though.

What issues?? :)
This is the first issue i encounter. Yes, everday i look at my 100 i might have some remorse i didnt get the Patrol but i still love it! It is the best allrounder :)

Yea, my driver side in LX gave out but sold as is. So this looks urgent now??? Should i buy oem boots or is there better aftermarket ones? Thank you!

Buy oem? Or aftermarket?
Haha i am not sure about a 3 banana job, have to watch some videos. How many hours would a mechanic charge? Thank you!
