My 2nd 100, this one from Japan!

No, unfortunately mine does not have a rear difflocker, only central locker.
I dont know if it has LSD, how did u see that?
There's a sticker on your rear diff that says "LSD fluid only" (same as my LX). ;) Unfortunately, that makes it less capable than your old LX with ATRAC.

I've run 35's on a few different toyotas in the past. None of them were any good without regearing. I ran 33's on my 100 for a couple months with the stock ratios and finally got rid of them. Loss of low end torque was unacceptable. I can only imagine what a slug 35's would turn it into.

You're tranny isn't going to make any noticeable difference. Manufacturers design the vehicles with specific gearing to tire size ratios for a reason. It's called drivability. If you really have to have 35's do yourself a favour and regear.

But like I said it depends on your standards and to be fair most peoples standards are a lot lower than mine so you'll probably like it just fine.

Have at it.

Maybe u r used to faster cars or do towing, I doint know, but 33s were perfect in my LX, 120km/h on the HWY and RPM on 2200 I guess, I cant imagine doing that speed with stock 31s, RPM must be at 2500, too much!

Once I put the 35s, then I will decide if regearing is necessary or not.

BTW, thank you for the wheels comment, will let you know.
But I would appreciate if you tell me a good place to install my suspension for cheap.
I called 3 shops yesterday and they said between 8 to 14 hours!!!!!! I said I installed the same kit last year in Portland OR on a rusty Lexus and it took them 6 hours and that is including changing all drivetrain fluids! 14 hours!!!!

Oh no!!
Let me check if in fact there is no ATRAC light on the dash, I hope JDM specs are different.
But thank you for letting me know, I guess I have to spend on an ARB locker now :(

295/70/18 is 34.26" and seems like a sweet spot between my old 275/70/18 and the 285/75/18 I want.

I love the search function, wealth of info on this forum! 👍

I am back!

After I sold Lexy last Christmas, I was looking forward to import a Nissan Patrol from
Japan, but for every Patrol I found there were over 20 Landcruisers. I failed to find a
Patrol for the right price, the scarcity of it makes it at least 40% more expensive than a
landcruiser of the same year and mileage. Solid drivetrain, but not sure it was 40% better!

Long story short, I found the landcruisers more appealing in terms of price and
availability of spare parts. After 4 months of searching, and failing to get one for the
prices I was fighting for, I finally found 1 in the local craigslist. Made an offer I was
surprised the owner accepted it immediately!!! I thought the ad was a scam!

5 minutes after I saw the Landcruiser, Landy, I told the owner take my money!
The auction sheets show it was grade 4 car (4 out of 6). Meanwhile, I was looking at
grade 3.5 or 3 from Japan for the money I wanted to spend. I almost paid for grade 4,
2003, with only 45,000km, but then the agent told me the undercarriage is painted, not
bare metal. Unfortunately many vehicles were painted, but the agents are honest about it.

Anyhow, I saved over $5,000 by not importing it myself and paying for a grade 4 vehicle
directly to an agent there. The owner is has a hobby of importing JDM vehicles and
selling them for a decent profit. He got it 3 weeks ago, and just put an ad last week.
According to the papers, he made decent money, and we are both happy, even though
my offer was 30% lower than asking price, haha! Savage!! :D

After I go the keys, I asked him why he accepted my offer, he said
his wife forced him to move some of his cars off the driveway or else! LOL

Landy

2002, 100,000km, A750 transmission (5 speed) apparently introduced in Japan in the
2nd half of 2002, so clean and almost 99% rust free it was unbelievable!
I am glad I got to inspect and drive the vehicle before I buy it.

It drives like I just bought it new! Even better than Lexy!
I appreciate how Japanese people take care of their vehicles.

Plan for Mods ;)

Lift Kit –
Most cruisers come with AHC in Japan, so I made sure I dont buy one with it!
I will put the same lift kit I had in Lexy, IronMan Cell Pro Foam. I liked them.
But I never tried the OMEs anyways.

Tires –
Landy, thankfully, came with 18s aftermarket wheels. I researched them, apparently only sold in
Japan. Wheels were categorized as SUV wheels, but not as 4x4 wheels, so not sure
they can take offroad punishment. However, I like the fact that they are 18 as I am
planning to buy 285/75/18, true 35s.

According to research in this forum, that is the best
size for 35s that with fit with no rubbing, even if I keep the stock UCA.

I might paint the wheels bronze or gun metal grey, not sure yet.
They look similar to those Rays wheels I think.

Spare tire in the back is original 17 so I am not sure if I shoud get 315/70/17 for it as a
spare, or just get an 18 steel wheel and buy a fifth 285/75/18.

Does the spare tire have to be rotated with the other 4, or just keep it as spare?
Stock tires now are winters, 285/60/18. Humming on the HWY.

I plan on getting the same tires I had in Lexy, TOYO AT2, but might consider the KO2 or maybe TOYO RT
I dont think the TOYO MT are necessary.

Timing Belt -
Most JDM 100s had stickers showing timing belt was changed between 95 to
99,000km, which is much earlier than about 150,000km interval, but Landy has no
stickers, however, the waterpump looks different than Lexy, it looks blue, so not it is the
original I assume. What do u guys recommend?

No plans to add a rear bumper as Landy comes with a tire carrier standard, haha, I
know many of you wish they had that! I might buy a Slee front bumper, but not sure I
want one as of now.

Only 2 cruisers of 105 between 2002 and 2004 came with a rear difflocker, very rare!
Oh, and only 4 maybe with a rear tire carrier like mine, love it!!
Might add ARB difflock in the future, will see!

For those who might ask “why didn’t you get the 4.2 diesel form Japan?” I honestly
considered it, but for the price premium, I will have to drive it for at least 8 or so years to
recoup the difference in price (gas prices, not including maintenance cost) then after 8
years I can start enjoying the MPG savings. I don’t think it was worth it to be honest, especially if you are not towing.
Most 4.2s cost double the 4.7s for the same year and mileage!!

I will update this thread as I make progress in building Landy, stay tuned.
Oh, I still have the drawers from Lexy, putting them in this weekend!

To any Canadian looking for a 100 from the USA, forget it!
Consider getting one from Japan! Mine has only 100,000km, and if u find that mileage in the USA (assuming u find
one + rust free) you will pay at least twice the price I paid for mine. The process is
frustrating and scary when you plan to drop big money on a car you never inspected,
but I think it is worth it!

Oh, and you will be driving on the RIGHT side! Haha!
Good Luck! :D
Love it! this has convinced me to paint my moldings white. But then i realized this has LX moldings, LX steering wheel, LX shifter console, cloth seats, and rear tire carrier. I LOVE IT!

for the rear bumper, if you really want one, i'd go with a dissent without the swingouts.

Congratulations on the buy! Mabrook!

Oh, and if you want to get rid of the window visors, i'd be interested in buying them.

Thank you sir! :)

It has the same dash as my Lexus too, so laser white :D i am not a fan of leather seats in Japanese cars, only European, so glad i have cloths in this Landcruiser!
What do u mean by moldings?

I wont be buying a rear bumper since i have the tire carrier, but might buy a front Slee bumper.

Keeping the visors, but u can get them from ebay :)

They are unbelievably clean, and majority are white :)
What vehicle would you buy if you lived in Japan?
As much as I lust the Land Cruisers, I'd probably have to go with something much smaller due to parking concerns and the very narrow street our family lives on. I liked the Toyota Wish and Noah we recently rented. They both have all the room our family of 5 needs.

This post confirms, again, fitment of 295/70/18, 34s, but they are almost the same price as the 285/75/18, 35s.
I guess 35s are better since they will be around 34 when I air down offroad.

I havent had any comment on the timing belt yet, it only has 60k miles but still 17 year old, and I am not sure if it was done already as I have seen with majority of jdm landcruisers around that mileage had stickers, mine doesnt.
Is it easily accessible to inspect?

I forgot to mention that I will be ordering Slee diff drop since I didnt have it when I lifted my LX, and maybe 10k later my driver side CV was gone! making loud clunking sound, not sure if that was due to the angle or just it was their time to go, but I am doing it properly this time.

Okay!
After a lot of research, and re-reading the 35s topics + body lift topics + all parts and labour required + lessons learned from 35 rollers who eventually downsized to 34s + consulting long time experts like @hoser 😁, I decided I should forget about 35s (for now) and get the 295/70/18, 34.26", as they are proven to fit without any trimming or rubbing.

Maybe I end up liking them and never feel the need to upgrade to 35s.
I feel I should move in stages, and evaluate needs/wants as I go.

So here it is:

STAGE 1
- Ironman pro foam, medium load, 2"
- 295/70/18
- stock UCA and no diffdrop

STAGE 2 (future plans)
- add 1" body lift
- after market UCA
- diffdrop
- 285/75/18

Right now, I have to decide on tires, prices on CND websites:

Firestone MT2 = $272
Wildpeak AT3= $282
tera grappler g2 (NOT E rated) = $283
KO2 = $286
ST Maxx = $320
Stt Pro = $333
TOYO AT2 = $346 ($294 after discount code)
Ridge grappler = $356
KM2 = $360
KM3 = $376
tera grappler g2 = $375

As stated, most likely sticking with the TOYO AT2, otherwise will try the KO2.
Tempted to try SST Pro, but MT might be overkill for my needs.

Most likely ordering tomorrow morning! :)

Thinking about all this lift + tires combo gives me headaches!
I ask myself why didnt I just import one of these, then all I need is to just put gas in it and drive :)

This tire. In your size of course.

Thank you!
I included the ST MAXX in my list and it has good reviews. It is $35 more per tire than the popular KO2.
Let me see if I can find the weight of the tire since it is a hybrid of AT and MT.

Just got landy back now, looks awesome!!

Ironman Profoam 2", no diffdrop, and I went with the 285/75/18 Toyo AT2, and I am glad I did! This is the perfect size tire for the 100 body :)

Those JDM wheels with 50+ offset made the tires fit perfectly with no spacers, no trimming, just hammering and heating! Over 1" of clearance between the STOCK UCA and the 285s. The guy at the shop said the wheels are well made and dont ever sell them. Car drives so good, acceleration is effortless, and hosetly I dont think there should even be a debate on regearing :) I will never regear!

A750 for the WIN!!!! Very Happy :)

Special thanks to @hoser and @DirtDawg for all their extra help in the background! Much appreciated!! :)

To tired now, but definitely more pics tomorrow!

Get the ST/Maxx. Best all around tire, tread wear is even, and it does phenomenal off road. 100% worth the price

I wanted to getvthe Toyo RT, but missed the coupon offer on them, so i went with the AT2 since i jave tried them on my lx470 and they perform great on all terrains!

Stmaxx gets great reviews, but heavier than the AT2 and more expensive, maybe on the next set if i get a deal, but most likely sticking to Toyo brand :)

Hey Tareq, thanks for answering some of my q's on insta last night. Would you mind posting hub-center to fender lip measurements when you get a chance? I really love the way this is sitting. Such a beautiful truck all around.

Thanks man, i love it too!
My pleasure, always glad to help!

So i should basically bust my measure tape and put it in the center of the wheel cap, and measure length to the fender is, correct? Will do ASAP ;)

The shop didnt raise torsion bars all the way up, he said something like "you still have some space for rake" or something like that not sure what that means, but they will play with it again after i drive it for a bit.
