My 1972 FJ40 build... (1 Viewer)

I found a column from a Jeep Cherokee that fit well with little modification. I was able to use all of the on-column controls except for the intermittent wiper settings. I installed an aftermarket wheel, of course. Don't want a Jeep logo on your steering wheel!

Also need to go to pick a part and find a suitable steering column. Any recommendations?

Got started on the saginaw power steering...

A friend came over and cut the hole in the crossmember, placed a 3" steel tube inside for added support and welded that up, then welded the bracket to the frame. We had to cut the mounting bracket in a couple spots to make it work with the shackles that are on there. All in all, I think it turned out nice.

I like the color and the raptor lining, looks like you are close to having it on the road soon nice work

Got a bunch of stuff ordered. New warn hubs, ignition components, fuel components, steering column, and more. I'll probably swing by Metal Tech and pick up one of their clusters and led kits sometime next week.

Also ordered a 6 gauge set from Marshall Instruments. Has anyone ever heard of them? I did some research and couldn't really find any bad reviews. I'm having them change out the silver bezel on them to the black bezel. Looks a lot better I think.

SCX Blueline Performance Gauges.

Should be a pretty productive weekend.

Real nice job man, looks like you're really taking your time. Can't wait to see the finished product. :bounce:

Thanks. Yeah it's going on a year and a half since we tore it apart. Not as long as others I've heard of.

And thanks for the quick shipping on the hood latches, turn signals, and weatherstripping I bought from you guys. It'll be going on soon!

Beautiful build mate. Love that gun metal grey look. Would love to get the time and money to rebuild one of my old beast rather than watch them sit there and collect dust...

Quick question though, are you/would you do a spring over axle conversion to your baby?

Thanks Casper.

No, not planning on doing a spring over.

more pics

Got the headers on, serpentine pulley kit on, and got the power steering pump mounted. Also have all of the fuel lines pretty much finished.

Have some parts getting powdercoated that should be done this week.

I think the next step is to find some seats, get them mounted, then install the steering column and figure out all of the linkage. It's going to be a tight fit.

I heard that there's been a few bank robberies in the Salem area, you wouldn't know anything about them would you???;)

Nice build!

Bought some seats today and got them all fabbed up. Taking the seat frames to the powdercoater tomorrow.

Also mocked up the steering column. Getting closer everyday. Here's some crappy cell phone pictures.

Thanks bro! Glad to see you joined.

Today we accomplished getting the steering linkage hooked up and put some body parts on.
