some pics of the tub...rear sill is probably the worst, along with a big old glob of bondo or something like it covering up who knows what. Spend 2-3 k on a new tub or fix this one up?????

If I did decide to sell the tub, how much would something in this condition go for?

I second that. Fix what you have. Replacement sill parts are available. It looks better than mine did and I rebuilt the back end in a few weeks. It's pretty easy with the tub off.

+/- $500 hard to say, depends on local market.

I'd fix it, buy a welder and some steel, and take a weekend to fix it all.
Even a new tub will require prep and paint.

Aqualu tubs are very nice, I've seen many in person. To replace the tub, cowl, and windshield would be $6500 + shipping. (I didn't see a price without the windshield)

fix it, that tub us solid and repairable.

What auto are you considering?

hey, long time man! I thought we were neighbors?

I take a few months off for works stuff, and you go move up north!
Looks like you are making progress.. my rig has been in and out the shop too. I have a brand new 350 in, and it's running sweet. Just wanted to check in and say Hi.. good luck on the rig.. I'm bummed you sold that rack.. I might have been interested in that.

Haha yeah, pretty quick move man. I have most of the family and friends up here in the Northwest. It's a heck of a lot cheaper to live up here too. Plus, now I actually have space to work on the cruiser.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the 40. Can't wait to finish mine up and get it on the road again. Hopefully spring or early summer. We'll see.

Update...dropping off the tub at the sandblasters Monday. Getting that done for about $250. I'm going to try blasting the rest of the parts myself. Also, found a mutual friend who is going to repair all the rust spots, dents, etc and paint it for $1,500. Seems like a great deal to me considering the rear sill needs replaced, some rust spots under the door, and the hard top needs a lot of love. Still thinking about the paint. I'll have some pictures soon.

Some more pics...

Did a little more on Sunday...

Got the engine and drivetrain out and some other misc. stuff. Pretty much just a rolling chassis now. Dropped the tub off at the blaster's today and we should be expecting it to get done within a few days. From there it goes straight to the guy who is doing all the body work and paint. He's going to get started on that while we try blasting the rest of the pieces ourselves. Tried blasting a little bit on Sunday but that didn't work out too well. The sand I bought wasn't fine enough and some pieces clogged up the gun every few minutes. Lesson learned.

I'll get some more pics up of the tub and other parts after they're blasted. Has anyone ever tried wet sandblasting? Was reading up on that a bit and it didn't seem like a bad way to go.

Also, we're looking for a fresher 350, auto tranny and maybe even GM t-case to swap in there so if anyone sees one for sale up in the Northwest be sure to let me know.

Tub done...

Picked up the tub from the blaster's today. It looks pretty good. Besides the obvious spots we knew had some problems it doesn't like there is anything else too extensive. I'm dropping the tub off tomorrow morning to the guy who's doing the bodywork and paint so he can get started on it and in the mean time we'll be attempting the rest of the sandblasting ourselves. Hopefully we can get the rest done fairly quickly. We'll see.

Wow, nice looking tub! Sure it's got a couple of rough spots... But nothing compared to the ones we see here.

Good luck on your build.

I rented a water blaster to do my tub and frame. It is basically a sand injection nozzle attached to a pressure washer. it worked very well and keeps the dangerous silica dust down. You do have to deal with the quick flash rusting of the wet clean metal though. I wiped everything down with a phosphoric acid product (ospho) to etch the metal and deal with the flash rust.

Looks like they did a great job on the tub.

I have the TH400 with Dana Spicer 20 transfer case, twin-stick

How did this work, do you still have the stock axles, what mods to drivelines were made. Did you have to move the engine forward for more room for th th400?

More parts blasted...

1st pic is front end of the frame part way done...

Had a guy some out Saturday and soda blast the frame and everything else we have. Now it's all dropped off to the guy doing the bodywork and paint.

While we're waiting on that stuff to get back we'll start rebuilding the engine and hopefully find the automatic tranny and the adapter we need. Just wondering whether to go with a th350 or th400. I've checked out some specs on both. Anyone have any personal recommendations?

Looking good btw...
