I pre-ran the back way up to Mount Ord today and it would make a great June club run but we will need a chain saw. The problem is the trail is overgrown by Pine tree limbs and others making the road impassable IMO. With 2' grass in the center of the road makes me think the roads has seen little traffic.

Post up if you have a chain saw, know how to use it, and are willing to do some trail trimming to make this run possible.

How were the washouts, relatively stocker friendly or doable? I can check on getting the keys to the gate, fire tower, etc?

I would be interested in going on the trip. I can check on chain saw status :o

If we're looking at mid-june, that should give enough time to address any "issues" post SOA; and I do have a chainsaw as well.

After the last monthly run the term 'stocker friendly' has a new meaning. FWIW when asked I did not consider it stocker friendly.:flipoff2: With that said Mt Ord would not be stocker friendly IMO. Not to say a good driver could not get a near stock 80 throught without a lot of issue but most good drivers dont have stock trucks. But if you are 'all that' I welcome the entertainment. The trail would be great for someone with a locked 80, some lift, and off road tires. Mt Ord would not be good for a spouce with little off road experience. The trail is mostly a shelf road, some off camber , and narrow is spots but I would not consider it unsafe. Loose sharp rocks make good tires a must. The washouts althought not large will test articulation making lockers helpful. You will have the choice in spots using line selection to make it as exciting as want. Some off camber stuff but only one place with a mandoatory line that would have some real pucker factor (on the drivers side:D)but dont be stupid and locked and all will be good.

This is a great trail and I would ecourage anyone with a properly set up LC to run it. You will have the chance to get some great experience safely without damage to your vehicle or hurting yourself. We will run it bottom starting at 3200', to top ending at 7000' plus. The views are great and the weather will be cool at the top. The road down is car friendly.

I pre ran the trail (5.5 miles) top to bottom in under 1/2 hour on my moto

Bottom line, this ^^^is all good info but without a chain saw this trail is not possible. This not about avoiding scratches it about the ability to stay on the road.

WOW - we took that trail in the minivan years ago :hillbilly:

If this isn't considered "stocker friendly", then I know it's definitely out of my league.

A rear locker is on the list, but not going to happen between now and this ride.

There are two ways/routes to this destination. The "back way" (FR27) is the way Phil is referring to and the "front way" (FR626) is a stocker friendly, graded road, usually used as our exit road. So there is the option of two groups meeting at the top for lunch, possible fire tower tour, etc.

I was just up at the top a few weeks ago for work, and agree thet the "main" road is very stocker friendly. I have the combo for the gate that is about half mile from the top.

Looking at the pic and talking with Phil, FR27 needs maintenance, signage. Trails that are allowed to deteriorate to that level is an indicator to the agency that it isn't used or important. So is in danger of being rated for/restricted to smaller vehicles (quads, motorcycles, etc) only or closed. Doing some maintenance, cutting brush back, installing signs, filling washouts, etc, getting it used, reduces that risk.

This trail is on my Travel Management map as open, so best to do what we can to keep it that way? It is a relatively close trail that goes to a cool (pines) area.

I'm in! For both, pre-run/maintenance and Club Run. Sounds like a lot of fun. I don't have a chainsaw, but I can help clear cut branches etc. as necessary.

Which weekend(s) should we save for this pleasure cruise?

:eek:SCRATCHES!? We dont need no stinking scratches!

Looks like an extra coat of wax is in order for the meat wagon :flipoff2:

I'd be in for an all day prerun and trail manicure session. Sounds fun.

I got clippers :wrench:

I would be interested in this project as well and I have a chainsaw. The first 2 weekends of June work well for me. I'm available most Wed and Thurs also.
