Those are some of my favorite OEM wheels. They are a good choice on the GX.
Is that a single axle? I thought the 23ft AS was a dual axle? There really are a lot of Airstream owners on here. It is good to see.
Good eye. That was our first airstream 22FB.

Here’s our current trailer:

I would like to hear a comparison of towing that setup with the 4.7 vs the 5.7. Have you been through a scale?
I haven’t towed with the 5.7 yet. When we last took both kids, our dog and au pair camping, we had nothing but the clothes on our body and kids’ car seats in the GX and it weighed 6,500 at the port of entry. The trailer was 5,600. I forget the breakdown by axle but being 300 lbs over gvwr (after the weight distribution hitch) with just people, skid plates, and sliders, I started looking at 200 series. I had already converted the trailer to LiFePO4 batteries over the axles and removed 90 lbs of lead from the tongue.

Weight was the main driver for the change.

I almost always had enough power to go a comfortable speed and with a larger trans cooler, I was able to go over 10,000ft passes at the poster speed without cooking ATF. That was with wringing the 4.7 out to 5,000 RPMs though. If I had it to do over again, I would have re-geared the GX when I put the 285s on.

If it helps, I've towed a 23D with my previous LX470 that had the 4.7L VVTi. Probably 1k lbs heavier overall than a GX470 with the same driveline.

Stability was excellent. Power was what I would call as only adequate. Holding posted speed on grades higher than 4-5% was questionable and being with the slow big rigs in the truck only climbing lane on steeper grades would not be unexpected.

The 5.7L is a brute with much much more power. Tows my 27FB that's probably 2k lbs heavier than the 23D with far more authority. Holding the posted speed on just about any grade is easy, to the degree one is willing to swill gas.

Thanks. That sounds about right. The narrower GX with soft Bilstein lift and oversized tires once did stain my shorts coming down out of Jasper NP in Alberta but the rest of the time, stability was decent with properly adjusted WDH and brakes (and improved technique).

With towing in mind and the need for new brakes since these are shuddering and have already been resurfaced by the PO, I anticipate buying Powerstop Z36 pads and rotors unless someone talks me out of it. They were a great upgrade on the GX.

No, and @grinchy is the only person that has addressed spring rate issue.
On the front maybe, but a few have added spring spacers to the back, preloading the stock coil and a couple, including myself, have swapped to the trail tamer coil upgrade for the 470 and I went as far as adding a 50mm spacer on top of that. Maybe a little overkill until the rear bumper goes on, but I feel like everything I do is a little trial and error. It seems great overall until it drops into the high speed low mode around 65mph. Then the rear end is under damped and noticeably different spring rates front to rear. And it doesn’t really seem to reset until I nearly come to a stop.

@grinchy ‘s solution is so simple, inexpensive and easily reversible, I really like it.

Also, I have added a small simple AHC sensor bracket to both the Dobinson’s and SPC UCA, so if you have any fabrication shops close, it’s not rocket science to use another aftermarket UCA successfully.

I have the Westcott front kit (not anodized) sitting here too. Might dive in next week, not sure (And a set of LX600 rear shocks I’m more excited to try). When are you planning on trying to install yours? Can’t wait to hear about it if you beat me to it.

Haha i knew i must’ve forgotten someone… sorry!
You and turbo8 frankenstein ahcs.

The thing with the springs is a bit of a grey area that has annoyed me too long.

Im doing the 30m rears in the kit, but i have two sets of matching rear coils and the soft (driver, driver) spares to play with if im under pressure like you are saying. So ill start with the two stiffs most likely unless you tell me not to. But since im unladen i can always go into sport mode too. As you must know its practically unusable sensor lifted alone. I wouldnt even mind that on the highway, thats what mode i would prefer to be in.

And likewise, That means in the front, if I experience oversprung condition, plan is i will just add some lift 😝

But you should see the ironman UCAs, they are super clean. I was not impressed with the others on market nearly as much. And they were DEAD ON AHC location, not a mm in variance after install.

I might feel cute and do the job today, but im low on AHC fluid. I can always reuse mine though, I have a nifty glass catch system setup thats is clean and unused.

You live round austin? Come on by lol

The way I figured, even if the LC tundra equates to 3” lift, on our slinky coils, if its even half that, im .5” lift away from coil synergy. Or just cloud ride it, which i dont mind either. The front end is usually where i am heavier anyway, my trunk doesnt have much in it and seats taken out too.

The ironic part of the westcott lift;

If i were in an LC or tundra, i would just go to a lift kit instead of a preload.

Its like the Westcott kit was made for the LX, and id be happy to confirm for everyone. They said they would let me resell too lol.

Who wants to place an order?

Only 22.5hrs away 😉

I think you’ll be fine just with the two tall rear coils 👌🏼

Can’t wait to hear how this goes. Always great to have other options as upgrade paths 🤙🏼

Edit: I think Turbo8 is on King’s now. I think he’s posted more photos of his rig in the air than on the ground! I don’t recall who else swapped in the Trail Tamer coils.

Spanish Peaks 👌🏼 it’s another world up there from where I live, to be sure.

yes same, I did not grow up like that whatsoever. Not even close.
$16M house is not too shabby though. Good to have friends, Lol.
You may not believe it from my online rants n raves but I make friends with everyone.

Next time we go, I’ll invite you too friend.

I have a buddy on Xbox CoD we play with that lives in a trailer not too far from there.
Life be crazy AF.

OP sorry for the hijack.

No worries. I don’t mind eaves dropping.

I have another question though:
How do I get my tire pressures to show on the dash? All I see on there is “- - -“ at each tire position. The pressures show up correctly on techstream but nothing on the dash display. I’ve tried the relearn button under the dash and drove for 20 miles but I still get nothing. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Relearn is a finicky b. I’ve had it learn in 5 mins, I’ve had it take two days.
I believe its looking for a certain temp increase.
Is it cold as hell where you are?

did it ever read in dash?
