Does this SC put any significant increased strain on internal engine or transmission parts or wear them out quicker?

Don't get me wrong, in stock form the 1FZ FE is a dang good motor. The S/C just enhances it.

:meh: The 80 needs a big V8. The SC brings you up to spec at best. What is great about the 1ZFE is simply that an big inefficient inline six is a low stress engine that lasts a long time. Everything else about it flat out sucks - you get precious little power for gobs of fuel consumption.

I wish I was in a better position to drop the money on the SC. The 80 is a great rig, and it deserves to actually perform in the 21st century because these things drive like new with 150K miles except for the pitiful power to weight to economy ratios.

Another way of saying this is that for 12 mpg I'd like to not be stuck in the right hand lane with the stupid pedal to the floor getting passed by 1.3L econoboxes :flipoff2:

I have silly low gears for my current tire size and V10 pickups towing 6K worth of loaded horse trailer floor me on the high passes like I am standing still. Pathetic. I am buying some lotto tomorrow. :hillbilly:

Thats why Im considering this now. Eventually I will be running 35s and i know that even after regearing I will want/need more power...especially for towing which I will be doing.

Ive been looking at the JDM fan and blue clutch mod lately...

FYI, you can squeeze a 14" electric fan in there, and it can be had with relay for <$50 to the door, and it moves a helluva lot more air than the JDM for a fraction of the cost.

Easy to say when you ain't got one.:flipoff2:

Of course it's all relative. I drove a minitruck with a 22R, stock gears, and 33s for the last decade. Then I moved into a normally aspirated '97, and finally a bored and SC'd '97. It's like a freakin' race car to me.:grinpimp:

BTW, it beats the snot out of my '04 F250 plow truck with a V8 (at least on the HP side).:steer:

It's true, my 80 feels like a race car compared to my old 96 vortec 5.7L.

2 door tahoe, so not exactly apples to apples.

Have you ever had a ride in Uncle Bens 80?

The alt just robs us out here.

Does anyone know the current going price or eta for a TRD S/C from this batch?

I spoke with my contact at TMS a couple days ago and he said that they are waiting for fan blades to complete the kits and they hope to be available mid May. Perhaps that has moved up since my conversation with him.

The list price is about 3,800 bucks and I am offering them for $3,299.00

Since these things are a discressionay purchase at 3,300 bucks a copy I am not buying any on speculation, only for pre-sold orders. Based on the current economy I don't think they will fly off the shelves right away.

I like my slow 1FZ. It is what it is.

If I want to go fast, I drive my Honda.

I dont mind the power of the 80 now but I know in the future I will want more. Once it is built it will be quite the porker.

Of course for speed kicks I get in my wife's G35. Usually it is followed by a butt chewing for how I drive it.....But the engine sounds so good in that car-even better since I put on the Z tube intake.

I may be placing an order for one this summer. Ive got some PM stuff to do first.

Dan,

I was told that they were waiting on the fan blades as well, but they arrived and the SC's are packed and ready to ship.

I'm with you on that.

It is rare that I would want go over 70 in the Cruiser anyway. If I need to tow something I'll use a vehicle suited to it. I'm not going to spend several thousand dollars to end up with a vehicle that still is underpowered.

Personally, I like to get off the beaten path and keep things as simple as possible. I wouldn't want the added complexity of a supercharger. I can see the attraction for some people though.

Oh, I want one :D - I'd like to ride in a SC 80 to really feel the difference.

I really don't mind my nice and slow 80, because it's not my primary vehicle and I don't daily drive. Still, I really think the big inline sixes particularly suffer at high altitude from a pure seat of the pants perspective.

I have never had my 80 at sea level (Moab @ 4K is about as low as it ever gets :D), but I did have a 4.0L XJ at sea level and in Colorado, and the difference is striking compared to say my 4,400 lb V6 minivan that breathes freely at 3,500 RPM and doesn't miss too much of a beat even on the worst passes.

Hopefully the SC's will continue to be available. Not going to lose any sleep over it either way, but I do want to turn my 80 into more of a road warrior to get to some longer destinations and the SC would be a big part of being able to eat up the long miles without a lot of excess driver fatigue.

These still available?

Complete kits are available.

100 minus 1 that's in my brother's garage waiting for me to come home! Thanks Cdan.
