80-series 1HDFT with aftermarket Terrain Tamer HD clutch and bearings as included in the kit:
I am currently experiencing the infamous chirping noise from my release bearing when ever the clutch is not engaged.
The chirping goes away with the slightest movement of the clutch pedal. To my understanding this indicates that the releasing bearing is contacting the pressure plate (diaphragm fingers). Clutch works fine, just annoying chirping noise.
I am having a difficult time finding information anywhere regarding whether or not the release bearing is supposed to be constantly spinning in the H151F driveline. Some informations claims that in hydraulic clutches and on fx. HJ60-series post 1985, there release bearing is constantly in contact with the pressure plate, and therefore is spinning. Other information claims that release bearing are not designed to spin constantly and that this would wear out bearing and pressure plate prematurely.
I have attempted to adjust the clutch pedal according to FSM with no change to the chirping.
So IF the release bearing is supposed to be spinning constantly, it would seem that a certain preload is necessary the the chirping indicates slipping on the diaphragm fingers. If it is supposed to NOT be spinning constantly, meaning that there should be a gap between the bearing and the diaphragm fingers, there needs to be less preload = more freeplay. Adjusting freeplay on the master cylinder doesn't seem to do much, until the freeplay is zero, in which case it pulls down on the pedal and it seems that the clutch is starting to engange.
Bottom line: Is the release bearing in the H151F drive line a constant spinning type or not?
