Found new tires, just gotta find time to pick them up. 35x12.50r15 Goodyear MTR's with 500 miles on them. Booyah! I want to sipe them so I have better performance on snowy roads, so what would be a good pattern to use when doing this? From what I've read, here's what I came up with. Seem good or no?

Still gotta order my cat and fix the PS issue. Ordering the CAT tomorrow morning.

I don't think the siping pattern matters. They suck.

Plus, they are awfully small.

Shipping quote to 95825 please.:D

You're a funny guy, My next set will likely be 38's or 39's for off road use :grinpimp:

I am pretty lucky though. I have fallen on a number of deals that, without them, this build would not have happened as fast. Thank you to everyone that has helped me along the way! I am doing everything I can to pay it forward. Cruiser Karma!!!

Seriously though, has anyone siped their tires before? Recommendations or advice?

Sheesh, still have the nibblies on them. Easy on the siping, they like to chunk out on the rocks.

Lookin good.

Thanks man!

For the siping, I was thinking of going 1/8" to 1/4" deep so it's worn down a bit before wheeling season comes around again. Good idea?

Agreed. I'd start with less than pictured and if that's not enough you can add more later.

Good point. Definitely don't want to ruin a brand new set of tires by chunking them out.

I'd keep it minimal. try and predict the wear for spring time use. Start small and add later....?
If it doesnt work out for you just send them to 84062 Ill pay the shipping too!

New tires are always cool...huh?

Wasn't you who said I had tiny tires and that you would be running 37's? Change of heart or for a differnt rig?

Ditto if I may. Also any tire you sipe will have issues with chunking. You will like the MT/R's. Good all around tire. However I like my KM2's better than the last set of MT/R's.

Truck is looking good!

No I have the wheels for the 37 x 12.5 x 17 but if 35s came along for free, I'd run them. Planning to be on the 37s though, and that's what I set up the gearing for.

Back to the regularly scheduled GLTHFJ60 updates....

Yeah man, new tires are always exciting:bounce: I think what I'll do is cut sipes only 1/8" deep and only 2 or 3 per block as opposed to the drawing I made earlier.

Thanks man! I'm pretty pumped about the MT/R's so we'll see how they do. I've read that they are good on everything except for snow, which I think I can improve. How are the KM2's wearing compared to the MT/R's?

I wanted to run 37's but I don't have the $$$. My next couple of drivetrain upgrades will be 4.88's, rear locker and 38's or 39's. Getting into the big $ leagues.

Ordered my CAT yesterday but had it shipped to my house in Schenectady as opposed to my house here in Rochester:bang::bang::bang::bang: Oh well, looks like the cat is going to wait till I go home again in 1.5 weeks.

37's would be great for me on the highway plus a Toybox would = awesome off road with the 4.88's. Maybe next year! OK highjack over.

Cant really say about wear yet as I have maybe 5k on them this year. What I can say is that they feel like they have better road manners than the MT/Rs and grip better in the loose wet stuff. As fas as snow I am pleased with that as well as we have had some crazy winters up here the last 2 years.

Agreed! 37s with a Toybox is what I want. Maybe next summer!

Good info on the KM2's. I hope I like the MTR's!

i had the center lugs siped on my 33 mtrs on the 4runner. Worked like a charm, better in all conditions.
Pattern like on your pic. maybe 8-10mm apart, 6-7mm deep.
A buddy had same tires, he also siped the outer lugs, wich was better in wintertime dd, but his tires wore faster than mine.
I'd say go for your pic there!
in the winter i also added a few hundred studs 1400 from best-grip.com. Success!

Don't want studs for my truck. Then I wouldn't be able to drift at all!

Got some stuff coming up for the rig this week. Gonna take the exhaust off and put a cat on and pull the leaking power steering pump in order to get it inspected. Hopefully I'll be able to track down some fluid film to protect this beast at least a little bit for the winter. Going to pick up the tires probably on the 3rd, but hopefully before then.

In other news, pimped out my web wheeler and picked up a christmas tree!

Installed my cat and found some fluid film. I also bought a new PS box and have a rebuilt PS pump, so as soon as that gets here everything will be replaced. Then I'll pass inspection! Going to go pick up the tires tomorrow and depending on how cold it is, I may even sipe them.

Oh yeah, installed one of my christmas presents, a pair of genuine sheepskin seat covers from Canada! This will be an awesome addition to my rig for the cold months.

Hey, that Got Rocks sticker is covering up the glowing apple logo? Enjoy your new rubbers...but I gotta repeat that those big old school baja's are sweet lookin. Probably act like a sled in the snow though :frown:! Your old BFGs were great when we got 2 feet of the white death last week . Love the front bumper. Merry Christmas bud
