Engine decided it didn't require a head gasket Friday night, as evidenced by the coolant sitting on top of the #6 piston. Also note the broken head bolt right next to it back there opposite the dowel. Ripped the head off Saturday after lunch. I am more than overjoyed as the timing is terrible. I'm in pain and have surgery next Friday. Just glad this happened now on not on my way down to Rubithon. Bright side is I can handle a few things I have been putting off while I have everything apart. It's just going to take time.

Not to extract that bolt. It is really frozen in there...

bummer

If the bolt does come out, maybe it's time for LS... :)
I'm already planning. That bolt is coming out whether it wants to or not. Then I'm reassembling everything this weekend and building my list for the swap next year or so. I'm very much over it all

Well, bolt chose to comply rather than let me weld on it. I need it to not rain as much as it says it's supposed to this weekend so I can get some work done. We'll see...

Not being a fan of energy drinks, Is there something I'm not aware of? Does it work as a penetrating oil? 😆
Unfortunately not. Just some calming juice. Attacking that frozen bolt after work, I didn't want to make dumb mistakes. Head is back on now. Need the weather to clear up just enough for me to reinstall the cams and assemble the rest now

So there's been quite a bit of progess this week. I'm ready to gusset and burn in the knuckle balls all the way in, then begin getting my link and coilover brackets on and figuring out the panhard and steering. I also learned plenty doing this. Later today, I'll share some measurements on making an 80 width housing that I couldn't find anywhere else. I'm sure I can't be the only one that wanted to get that info and couldn't find it

Sweetness. Do you have any photos of the knuckle balls before you pressed them in to the axle tubes? Were they new balls from Ruffstuff, or salvaged from an 80 series axle?

They came from Front Range

How far down the rabbit hole are you going?
Will there be a selectable locker or hydro assist ?

Hydro assist was already in this rig, so I’ll be reversing the lines and mounting it up front with the Hellfires. No selectable locker for now. Grizzly will do for now. Later on it’ll probably get an Eaton in it, but the head gasket going in February took those funds away

Speaking of Hellfires let me know if you want me to cerakote those . I can do them this weekend after i take my favorite drive again :steer: :bang:

Still not sure why you want them pink but who am i to ask

The only picture I have of them prior to going in is the photo @Firemedic831 sent me when they showed up to him. They were turned down to have an interference fit in the RuffStuff housing and I couldn’t be happier

Thanks! I was curious if they had a shoulder on them to control how deep they go into the axle tube, appears they dont.
