I agree...just making a list and learning about the vehicle. Ya know i really don't know much about how a car works so I'm going to learn as much as i can, get help when i need it. :) ask a lot of questions...

Getting to know what's under the hood.
Can someone explain to me what this is and what its for please.

How long ago was this rig running? I'm wondering if you'll even get it to crank with that bundle of wires melted through. Did the PO even mention anything about this?

BTW, I saw your other thread about "Ol Blue" in Chat......and saw the brand new OEM carb in the box. That brought back some memories of a time several years ago when I was trying to sell a home at the end of Old School Road and there was a guy with an FJ40 plow truck and a new carb in a box (I offered to buy it off him and he passed). Must have been the same guy, but I don't remember him being Japanese. Do you know how long he owned the rig?

He is the only owner. He said he bought it new. Up there is was only used as a plow truck. Previously on a strawberry farm.

Judging from this picture, your steering box has been leaking for some time. Definitely check that out and add some fluid if it's empty before doing any meaningful driving. The steering box sits directly above where all that caked on grease is.

Nice score on the 40.

BTW, I would have a closer look at the steering link here. The picture makes this look like its bent. Might want to check it out before driving it.

I'll bet new plugs and wires and that thing goes for another twenty years.

I added some additive to the gas I put in. The battery was easier to put in than I thought. Tomorrow I will drain the old oil and put 9quarts of new. Change the oil,air and fuel filters.

Being how you're a girl and all, it would help keep your finger nails clean if you wore latex of nitrile gloves when you change the oil. That dirty old stuff will run under your nails all the way up to your cuticles. It will take a month to grow out.

All the cool mechanics wear them.

Great idea!
