Cool, GL w resto....

I need a new back door handle.

Buy new. Where the handle is notched for the lock is a weak spot and cracks. Changes are a used one is already weak.

Two things shorten the life of the handle. One people trying to open the hatch when it's locked. Second opening the hatch when it adjusted tight to keep it from rattling. To prolong the life of the handle I rarely lock the rear hatch. 40s I own with the rear hatch are parked in a garage. I also push on the hatch to relieve pressure on the latches before lifting the handle. The handle isn't cheap and I want them to last.

I needs some rear light covers too.

Those are cheap after market lights. The OEM lights are still available new.

Got to figure out how to change the thread title. Its a 1970 doh

Contact a moderator to change the title. I made that mistake of listing a 1970 FJ40 as a 1970 FJ70. Semlin fixed it for me.

Looks like a clean unmolested FJ40 that could be restored to a very nice FJ40.

Well done, Monniepoo. Congratulations.
Looks like you're going to need a new toolbag. Say good-bye to your manicurist...

Yup! My nails are all broken and there is grease under them...lol added a few cuts and bruises too. I have no tools anymore.
Maybe for Christmas this year!

So, what are the plans...to slowly restore it, make is safe and drive, or build it into a driver/weekender?

That's a commitment!

Good luck. Change over to front discs if it going to be a daily drive.

Power steering would be good too.

You are going to need deep pockets for the first year or so. Good project.

Nice truck! Love the color! Now you have to go out there and smear your hands on the bottom of the engine so you have that permanent bond with it. :) and more pictures please.

Pulling off the lower radiator hose and getting a face full over antifreeze is a good way to bond also,..

Sounds like a plan...make it safe, and get to know it before your next step. Everyone will have their opinions, and as a purist I am no different (slowly restoring it is what I'd do also), but in the end you need to do what will make you happy with Ol Blue

By "farm truck" do you mean a "mountain truck?" I see the Lake Arrowhead license plate frame and the CSFA sticker......was it from that area? The snow plow makes me think I might know this truck....

I have lived in the Lake Arrowhead area my whole life and probably know (or could find out) a lot about that rig if you don't know it's history already. There were never very many FJ40's up here, but my dad had a '67 that he bought off the lot in San Bernardino, and all the Cruiserheads in the area knew each other.

It was on a orchard at the end of old school rd. in running springs. the property is for sale and it's gated. It was down by the silo. This cruiser had an awesome view! Apples and peach trees are what's there. Hamamura is the former owners last name. Very cool guy
