More PM done today. I took out the old fusible link and replaced with a fresh OEM. Old link was looking pretty beat up and I suspect it was causing a few failure to starts I was occasionally experiencing...

I also took time to rehab the PS hoses. Pulled all of the old stuff and replaced with fresh. Also installed a magnapure filter on the return side to keep the system clean....

Then I got this beast running. 10,500 lb Mile Marker hydraulic....

When I purchased this from @2fpower it was setup for 24v. I have since converted it to 12v which was surprisingly easy once I tracked down the appropriate parts.

I got all of the connections made and bled the PS system. The winch spools in both high and low gears. The 2 amp max draw on my battery will be a big change from the electric winch I was running before.

So far no leaks. I will run it for a few days and keep an eye on everything. The lines from the Toyota parts to the winch solenoid are about a foot too long. The routing looks a little funky but its an easy fix to have the lines shortened and re crimped. I will probably not mess with it for now. The day after I purchased this from Kelly I made an offer on another one that came with some extras. If everything works out with getting it shipped here then I will probably just swap them and put this unit up for sale. Current mileage 210,000

Did a little playing around today with a few jobs that have been on backorder. First up was new hatch struts. These have been on the bench for months despite the fact it only takes about 20 minutes to modify them to work. The old one's were so worn down that the hatch was about level with my face when it was up....
IMG_2399.webp
I then dealt with a clearance issue on my short side swing out. The bump stop was welded to the previous swing location before I had the ladder. Therefore if you weren't careful the hatch would contact the ladder on its way up. I ground the bump stop to give it another 10* of movement. Then relocated the assist strut on the arm to take advantage.....

Today I plan to drink coffee and wait for more parts to arrive .....

Switched to beer, still waiting on parts to arrive. Apparently Toyota's computer system is down nationwide. Which means my stuff is sitting in the warehouse near KC just waiting to be shipped out. Luckily this showed up .....

Yes, it is a second MM 10,500 Hydraulic. Yes it is essentially new and never installed...

The last two days have been spent dealing with some minor yet inconvenient issues. First up was an exhaust leak caused by a failed flange gasket. This gasket was new, from Bosal, in September of last year...
IMG_2428.webp

I was able to track down this FelPro gasket, I believe it is manufactured by Mahle....
IMG_2430.webp

Regardless it hails from Japan, same as Land Cruisers and Samurai so it should be good to go...

I also fixed the button on my windshield wiper stalk. The original unit was melted when I had a short so I haven't had any winshield washer squirting since last year when that happened. I was nearly certain I would have to dismantle the steering wheel and remove the entire works from the column. The solution turned out to be quite a bit simpler actually. I took a perfectly good column with an intact wiper stalk, then hacked off the part I needed. Big thanks to @shoresoccer13 for selling me this....
IMG_2437.webp
I correctly assumed that the button portion ( which was all I really needed) had to have some provision for installing into the stalk upon final assembly. It was a $50 gamble but it worked. Once I retrieved the button and spring I was able to simply insert them into the stalk on my rig....

I had spare time this afternoon and decided to get my new outer brake lines installed. A big thanks to Amory @sleeoffroad for getting these shipped out to me last week. I am pretty paranoid about brakes after last years debacle on Wheeler Lake trail. I figured fresh lines all around will give me some peace of mind. All four corners are bolted in and I will give them a test drive tomorrow after I've had the chance to bleed the system...

Sometimes the simple repairs are the most enjoyable. When I first got the truck it had an up down wobble to the steering column. I fixed it by cleaning the locking teeth on the DS of the column so they would mesh better. That lasted up until a few months ago and the problem returned most annoyingly. I think it is now solved for the foreseeable future...

This time I pulled the teeth assembly out and cleaned all of the friction surfaces of old grease. Then applied some white lithium grease before fitting everything back together...
IMG_2451.webp

The final piece is to install a stronger return spring on both locking mechanisms. These springs activate the pawl that pulls the teeth on the arm into the corresponding teeth on the column. I used a #79 spring from ACE Hardware ($1.99 ea) on each side....

The column locks up very tight now, with no more up and down movement. Its nice to have solid feedback from the wheel again...

I got all of the air out of the lines and took it for a test drive. The stainless lines definitely improve pedal feel. I imagine if I disconeecteed the ABS fuse it would be excellent. I still need to fully flush the system but I'm just haven't been impressed with my bleeder. Maybe I will get speed bleeders for it and try those.

On bleeding the brakes, I recently learned there is a bleeder on the LSPV. Need to do mine again.

If it is, there is a new delete thread on how to do it with a gasket and a bolt.

We bled all four corners and the LSPV, but the pedal still feels a little squishy to me. Is there another bleeder screw on the ABS module?
