I know this wouldnt work with your plan of a slide in pick up camper on the toungue but saw it on the side of the road the other day and thought of this thread...... just saw on CL so thought id leave here for you to start getting commitments deposits from your passengers :D

2004 take 3 trailer

Del makes great points about doubling up use and the enclosed is nice option but not sure that moonshine would cooperate.
The camper on tongue really is a nice setup if your committed to hauler status for trips. DSLTOY's has slick setup for 2 wagons or 3 40s i believe. He was setup as a party deck when toys were unloaded for the trails.

Maneuverability is going to be a problem, absolutely. Double-use is ideal, but enclosed trailers are expensive.

Moonshine is just less than 90" wide with the swampers on and less than 8' tall, so she should fit inside something like this:

2013 ATC 38' Gooseneck Trailer ***********

@GLTHFJ60 remember when we went to PA and @Burt88 (cowboy butts Mike) was loaded into an enclosed trailer? We all slept in the trailer with an A/C unit and you snuggled wrench's? hahaha

How could I forget!! That actually worked pretty well, lol.

I'm glad moonshine is wider and taller than the Lexus.:clap:

So can we figure out what month we would like to make this trip happen?
Length? -2 weeks, 1 week, 4 days?

Or are we going to wait and see what the dates are for Rubithon 2018?

I am all in to do Rubithon. @Burt88 and I did Moab in 14 days including driving there and back, so three weeks total trip time from here to Rubithon, run rubithon, then come back (maybe with time to hit a trail or two in Moab) :grinpimp:

Dates would depend on when Rubithon 2018 is, but June.

I have my brother's wedding in July out in Cali that I just found out about, (who wants to get married lol) I guess I will need to attend that so it puts a wrench in my plans at the moment.

Who plans a wedding 15 months out??? Sounds like a guy who figures he'll find a way out of it in that time.

Laura and I planned ours two years in advance

Johnny are you thinking something like this?

3 days to get to CA from NC
3 days to get to NC from CA
TOTAL: 6 travel days

Option 1

2 days - travel to Moab from NC
3- 5 days - Moab
1 day - travel to CA from moab
5-7 days - rubithon
3 days - travel to NC
Total - 15-18 days with 3-5 contingency days

Option 2
3 days- travel to CA
5-7 days - rubithon
1 day - travel to Moab from CA
3-5 days - Moab
3 days- drive to NC
Total - 15-18 days with 3-5 contingency days

I think I'd rather do Option 2 so that if I break my truck in Moab, at least it's after Rubithon. For me at least, the priority is Rubithon.

Was thinking the same thing. That also leaves the option of stopping in Moab or not depending on days that folks might have or not have.

I've done the drive from Jacksonville, NC to Sacramento in 3 days, that's really pushing it. I've done it driving non stop with two drivers that sucked ass! I've done 3.5 days, stopping each night and staying in a hotel, that was better but still a lot.

I like option two.

My family and I have gone across country over a dozen times and even with kids the drive is not bad for me. 3.5 days seems very doable.

my plan is to do 12-16 hour driving days.
Day 1 nc to -somewhere between Memphis and Oklahoma City

Day 2 Memphis to somewhere between Albuquerque and flagstaff.

Day 3 punch it the rest of the way to the Tahoe area.

Also, since I am not bringing the family along. I plan to sleep at truck stops in the trailer as I need it.

I prefer to take I 40 due to it being flatter, Therefore can move faster. I can work my truck less by avoiding mountains and get better gas mileage as an added bonus.
