Looks like I80 to South Lake Tahoe NV. Then 40 min. into Tahoma CA. Which I believe is one of the trail heads.

For planning purposes:
Rubithon dates are June 19-24

Wagon run should start that Thursday June 21 which is when I plan to start the actual trail run.

I would say that flying in on WEDNESDAY JUNE 20 into South Lake Tahoe would be a good tentative date to plan. Maybe even late that day. I can get you from the airport so we can prep for the next days start of the trail.

I am not 100% sure what day I will arrive to South Lake Tahoe. But I will be there no later than WEDNESDAY June 20 to do final prep and then ride to the trail head Thursday 21 for the wagon run ( depending completely on what the instructions are from the trail leader -link up site, pre-trail inspection, pre trail instruction and start time)

Hope this helps

My family and I are currently planning on leaving Apex NC. Friday 15 June towards South Lake Tahoe.

My goal is to arrive in South Lake Tahoe on Monday 18 June.

Just a head's up...

The trail head where you start the Rubicon is at Loon Lake. The Tahoe side is the exit.

If someone is flying to meet you, have them fly into South Lake on Tuesday. You could save some flight $ by flying into Reno and rerouting a bit, or even meeting up in Salt Lake.

The wagon run leaves the Loon Lake trail head on Wednesday 8am sharp, so it's best to get there the evening before and camp on the rock slabs at the start of the trail. It is a long slow way from anywhere to the start of the trail, so really best to be there the night before. Tech inspections start at 7a. Trust me on this. Steve the trail boss is an engineer (pocket protector and all) and won't let you slide on the safety inspection.

You certainly can take I80 out all the way, however you then still need to get over to Highway 50, to get to Ice House ROad, to get to Loon Lake. So I80 to Reno, south on the 395 to Hwy50 would work. In my opinion, much better to head south out of Salt Lake on I15, Pick up Highway 50 and cross Nevada on about the best highway drive anywhere. then you'll go through South Lake Tahoe, over Echo summit and down the hill to Ice House Road (also confusingly called Crystal Basin road). Then take that for many slow miles to the Loon Lake road, and more slow miles to the start at Loon Lake. There is no back way or easy way to do this. Alot 90 minutes from the time you turn off the 50 to get to the trail head. It looks like it should take 20 minutes on the map, but it's narrow, slow, uphill, blind corners, confusing route finding and lots of awesome scenery where you'll want to take pictures.

Questions, hit me up. I'm going in on Sunday and will be hanging at Buck Island Lake until the wagon run comes in. Hope to meet and hang out with you guys there.

@GLTHFJ60 I still have room for you but you gotta let me know soon. You'd fly into Sacramento the Saturday before and out of Sacramento the Monday after.

@Cruiserdrew

Have the dates been set yet or still pending?

When does the 40 series group leave?

I’ll be staying at my brothers house in south lake a few days before, but you’d still recommend camping the night before whatever run we take based on your notes above?

Thanks,
Jon

Looking at the first pic on the Rubithon site, you'll see 2 of my trucks-the blue 60 and the green 40.

Any run can be a 40 run. It isn't designated at all. Usually people join the wagon run if they want a bit of extra time, or the support of other wagon guys. So pick the time that suits you best. The wagons leave on Wednesday and stop for the night at Buck Island. SOme of the groups blast all the way through. That makes for a long day. Over the years there have been a bunch of 40s on the Wagon Run. 40s are more nimble than wagons though, so if you'd feel slowed, pick a different run.

In any case, it still takes maybe 2 hours to get from South Lake to the Loon Lake start so be aware. Camping at Loon the night before is smart.

Appreciate the offer my man. Sadly I have to turn you down. Won't have the time off.

I am looking forward to this Del...

This could well be my year.
Penciled in.

Preparations for the event have been well in their way without any issues up to this point.

Yesterday the mud member selling me the locked 80 axles has to back out due to work commitments. This prettt much stops the 80 in its tracks from making it out. Vehicles are Required to be locked front and rear, winch, and heavy duty skid plates, this is a requirement for the Wagon run which I am signed up for. On top of that you still have to pass inspection.

Anyway, going the Arb route plus gears plus finding spares is just not feasible not just budget wise but also time wise.

Luckily I have the first gen that I have been finishing up little by little.

So plan B is to bring the 82 first gen towed by my F250.

I am making this run one way or another.
Just have to give the mini a few test runs and it will be good to go.

My ability to attend is in serious jeopardy. One of my team members (I lead a small team) is scheduled to go out on paternity leave 5/30 for 6 weeks. Having a third of us out during the same timeframe isn't an option at this point and unfortunately me already having scheduled this time off a year ago matters not. Sucks but not much I can do.
