Anyone have the Metal Tech FJ40 Tube Doors installed on their FJ40-45. Would like to see some photos and some feed back on them.
Thanks

Nothing against those, but a big part of 1/2 doors is holding in the heater heat when it cools off, IMO.

Not half doors, tube doors. I live in the interior of Alaska..its nice to put the hard top and doors on in the winter.

RIGHT ON just what I wanted. I have been also looking at both manufacturer types and was leaning towards the Metal Tech for my FJ45. Nice write up. I believe I will be ordering a set tomorrow for the 45. I have many parts and door hinges are some and will work out nice. I did want to ask on how far do they stick out from the body as most all the photos are side shots. Also on the Metal Tech where is the tube to tub close areas located.
Again thanks, good info.

I can see both sides, but my wife likes the idea of the tube doors over nothing at all, especially when the kids are riding in front.

I think they make passengers feel safer - plus, they have something more to hold onto that just the o-s*** bar :hillbilly:

personally, yeah, I know I am driving a deathtrap :meh:

My only issue with the Metal Tech doors and the strikers that came with them

They're made from 1.5" OD tubing. In the front, they don't stick out past the hinges. In the rear, they are nestled into the door contours of the tub and so they only protrude from the rest of the tub by about an inch. I will take some photos for you later today when I have time.

If I understand what you're asking, where they touch/rub when closed? It's up near the top (near the latches) in the rear. I'll take a photo with the doors open and you'll be able to see where I put foam tape to cushion them.

Again thanks, good info.

You're welcome!

"Wow" thats latch and striker are a bit off, whats up with that. That may be a deal breaker for me if the latch and strikers are that far apart on adjustment. I was thinking dead center of the striker with the latch. That lacth looks very low. That looks bearly holding. Does the door pop open when wheeling?
Thanks

Camera battery dead; will charge it and take some more photos later today or tomorrow.

Looks like 93jspec has an early tub. On my 1980 ('79 build) 40, the latch hits the striker right at the bottom bolt position in the striker plate, with full engagement and is very secure. I'll take a photo of that too when my batteries are charged.

OK, sorry it took so long, my business got in the way (I had to work).

Here is a photo from behind the door, that shows how much the MetalTech tube doors stick out. It might be exaggerated a bit by having the camera so close to the door:

Here are two that show the striker plates mounted to the stock location in my 12/79-build tub, and where the latches hit them. As I said in my review, these were bolt-on items for me, requiring no modification of any sort. They work perfectly and are easy to adjust; one of the things I like best about my MetalTech doors.

Finally, here is one with the passenger-side door partly open, so you can see where I put foam tape to protect the tub. It's invisible when the doors are closed:

Hope these help!

Not bad, does not look as bad as I was thinking. The foam along the inside of the door is not a big deal one has to expect a 95% fit with some loss. It would be nice to have a release handle on the inside. Looks as one can modify pretty easy.
Big thanks, I will be looking forward to my set soon.
Nice.:bounce:

I’m late to this thread. Just installed my passenger side last night. They stick out a little but look fine. I added weatherstripping on mine too so they won’t rattle. They close and open perfect with that weatherstripping and don’t “clang” any.
