Thicker gasket worked as well. I used it for a couple of years. Switched to the thinner gasket later on.

Dan - hope I didn't come across as a complete a$$. Just saw something not right for my bird-brain and was hoping the community can do a virtual assist. @Chungas Revenge with the solid!

So I have buttoned everything thing back up. Replaced the battery under warranty. Apparently if you leave the hazards on for a month the battery will never work again. Anyways I was cranking it over to see if it would start and nothing. I am getting air, getting fuel, no spark. I was leary of the dizzy anyway and come to find out someone had wired the distributor like this.

notice the bare wire wrapped around the prong for the points that was exactly how I got it minus the little tiny bit of electrical tape " holding" it together.
I normally don't want to wish harm on people. But who ever did this type of bush repair needs to be taken out back and beat to an inch of their life, revived then forced to watch inappropriate home movies of their parents until the day they die.

I got the distributor changed out and it was easier then I thought installing it. I tried to start it and ended up getting one of my infamous ID10T trouble codes. I had my kill switch on so no spark. Got that fixed and it fired right up. Found another code and there was a huge ⅜ vacuum leak. I plugged that up and took out all of the previous carb adjustments to start with a clean slate. I tried to drive it around the neighborhood and there was no acceleration.

@Chungas Revenge I kinda took a play from your playbook and used the adapter boot for this carb to my old air filter.

You got’er breathing again…!!! :bounce: That’s high cotton right there.

This is like Physical Therapy after a heart transplant. The patient is up and walking a bit.

What are you thinking for next steps?
I have to tune the carb, check the the timing, hook up the pods and light bar, drive her.

Awesome Dan.
Love your tenacity.

Ian
not so much tenacity but rather desperation to get her on the road again and get back to normal.

Although I did notice last night on my test drive the the split hood seem now hits the air cleaner

Well that didn't last long. 1 hour on the new motor and I am exactly where I was a month ago. Trying to figure out how to possibly get a new motor. I was able to start it and run it but after driving it less then a mile it feels as though it won't turn over anymore. I took the valve cover off and there is oil up there. I got the carb tuned the timing right. But it feels as though she rejected the heart transplant.😔😭🤬

Well it was my fault I didn't get the distributor hooked up to the oil pump.
On a bit more positive news I got my "Christmas" present done that I got last week

She is going to be semi-permanently decommissioned for the foreseeable future. Until I can figure out what to do. I kinda shot my shot by trying to replace the motor. But for now this will be the last post about this for a while.

Man I hate that for you, it is never fun having your truck down. There has been several times mine has been idle for months at a time because of mechanical issue that I could not get to right away. You have contributed a lot to the Landcruiser community. Im rooting for you. If I was closer I’d help you get it going again.

The oil that was up there was before I pulled the dizzy to re adjust it

Bummer. GL.
