Whether I just stuck a 2F in it, or changed around the drivetrain would depend on how I used the truck. If you putter around a few times a year, just stick the 2F in it. If you pile 10K miles/year on it, then consider something different.
Recently she has become my daily but before that she was the weekend ride. But chances are she is going to be back to my daily

Vally Hybrids allegedly has a top plate for the 5 speed now that moves the shifter back to the 4 location (bottom) vs the 60 series location (top). Very few 40 top plates existed in the wild to model off of, but George got so not a lot of tunnel mods (TCase still needs mod).

🎸🎤 Here we go again on my own. Going down the only road I've ever known. Like a drifter I was born to walk alone.

I just picked up this 2F as a replacement for the one that got torched. Apparently it ran pretty good but I am going to inspect and check it out so I don't have to go through this again.

So here is a little update on the heart transplant. So far the heart seems to be pretty good only a bit of a leak at the timing cover.

Getting it cleaned up and and going into AutoZone every day to buy small ansilary items I know that I am going to need and instead of buying it all at once and getting only 1 point towards a $20 store credit. I am going in every day to make $20 minimum purchases so I can get 5 points and get the $20 this week.

If all goes well it should be in this weekend.

The block and head are going to get a fresh coat of black. The timing cover, valve cover, and oil pan are going to be blue.

Time for a photo dump of the insides of the new to me 2F

The cylinder walls don't look too bad. The cams are not worn at all. The motor turns freely and easily. Hopefully it will be in this weekend Monday at the latest

How did the inside of the oil pan look when you took it off?

Looking forward to the photos and hearing about your progress.

Best,
B

The oil pump screen had some debris but nothing metallic. There is a bit of oil based sludge on the bottom but not a lot barely any when I scraped to check.

This is one of those times that I think what the living hell did I get myself into. Actually I know what I got myself into and I am excited about it. Having said that it is A LOT of work.

The old motor is out and it was harder and not as hard as the last time I had the engine out. Needles to say I thought I had done a better job at sealing the motor last time.

When I get everything working again the good used parts are probably going to be sold. The 2f alternator and the F alternator, valve cover, oil pan, head, 2F fuel return line, dizzy. Or if someone wants to buy a 1F core to be reconditioned.

Are you going to do an autopsy to try and determine what happened?

I haven't decided on that yet. I might take the hood parts off and scrap it.

If you look at today's progress you would just think that all I did all day was sit in the garage and do nothing. Needless to say today kicked my ass again. I got the oil pan on with the one piece gasket. Timing cover went on with new paint and gaskets. At the same time as buying the motor I bought a water pump out of a 60 series not realizing that it has an extra pipe coming off of it that my other pumps did not have, the one my old motor and and the one on the new motor. So I am trying to decide on whether or not to sell that or use it. For those who have pulled these motors you know that the bell housing comes out with the motor. So there I am trying to take the clutch pressure plate and friction disc and flywheel off to get the last 4 bolts of the bell housing off. Wait you say the motor is stuck and cannot rotate the flywheel to get the last 2 clutch bolts, no problem 🙄. So now the oil pan has to come off so that I can take the rod caps off. I'll drain whatever oil is in it so I don't make a mess 😅. Some of the rod caps came off easily, some did NOT. Some of the pistons were able to slide up the cylinders, some did NOT. 1 & 3 were the culprits. After struggling all afternoon and having my shoes in a puddle of oil and coolant I was able to get the flywheel turned enough to get those last 2 bolts out so out with the clutch pressure plate friction disc flywheel and bell housing. Tomorrow I am going to be getting the new motor off of the stand and put the new pilot bearing in. Tuesday will probably stay home from work to get it back in the truck. Thank goodness for PTO.
