The cut

Looks like the Piggy Parts are arriving, please let me know if there are any issues.
FYI in an earlier post I discussed that those with factory front floor boards may have to cut the scuff plates on the inside front corner to avoid the bead roll. Here's a picture showing the cut.
Looking forward to see how you each decide to finish them, Paint, powder coat, natural etc....

Reviving an old thread!!

I finally have been able to get a partial sheet of aluminum (I've been riding our messenger guy hard on this for the last few weeks, asking him almost daily) so I will be working on reproducing the scuff plates as near as possible to the OEM ones that Eric so graciously sent me over a year ago. If it works well I'll post up pictures and if you want them, they'll be made available. They will be the same, or close to the same gage aluminum as the originals and they will have the same form as well. I couldn't find anyone in the city who would take this on (not a big enough job I suppose) so I'll be giving it a shot.

Eric, I'll be sure to bring your old ones, and a new set, up this summer.

No rush on my part...this last 9 months has seen very little cruiser time out of me (in fact none I think). BTW- if you are likely to stay the night you will be relieved to know that the torture rack will be gone and replaced by a quality FUTON with quality Mattress. :)

Here's my first feeble attempt at making these up. I'll be working to perfect the shape and style.

What is the thoughts of the pig farmers?

I'd say that, as a first approximation, they are looking very, very impressive.

In the picture the lower one is the OEM one and the upper is my copy. I need to work on more gradual curves in each of the bends. At least I have a plan at this point and more importantly, aluminum to work with!!

Here's another picture. The plates with holes are the OEM ones from Eric which I am using as a model. The rest are my copies. These are just the rear doors as my bender is not large enough for the front doors but now that I have a plan I'm going to see if I can get a local place to bend them and then I'll put on the curve at each end.

The one on the left and the one second from right are my good copies, the one second from the left was my trial pictured earlier (I didn't get the bends as gradual as I wanted). These will not have any holes drilled as different year piggies had the wiring harness on different sides.

Who all wants a set? Eric gets one for sure for his trouble in getting the OEM ones to me, I'm making one for myself. I'm thinking they will be $60/set + $5 shipping and shipping will be in June when we get stateside. PM me for details.

Once the aluminum I have is gone I won't be making more of these. It was a real challenge to get the aluminum in the first place!

OK, those who would like a set will need to PM me and pay so I can be sure to recover costs. These will all ship in mid-June.

I'll post pictures once I have a complete set in my truck. So far they look like they will fit very nicely catching the pinchweld moulding but leaving the rubber exposed to seal the door just like OEM!

Now I'm off to make a few more to improve my abilities!!

Got any installed photos?

Give me a bit of time here! It's only been a year and a half or so  I hope to have pictures of the rear installed in the next day or so.

I just worked it out. I'll have enough aluminum for a total of about 18 sets. I'm not getting additional aluminum once this is gone and I'm going to offer this to the LV crowd as well (I assume the LV was done in a similar fashion as there are screw holes in the same places). I will be taking the first 15 orders for either LV's and/or '55's (I get one for my '55 and one for my LV and Eric Ellis gets one for graciously loaning me the OEM ones to copy) and after that they're back to "unobtainium" status. Don't be order 16!

I would be interested in a set for my LV. Aluminum or Stainless.

There will only be aluminum offered. Stainless would be too difficult to get the bends at each end without some heavy machinery.

Do you know if the LV wiring runs inside or outside the cabin? The FJ55 has the wiring loom running on the floorboards and then ducking into the rear quarter at the back or the rear seat (wiring changed sides between '74 and '76. I'm not sure how a '75 is). It seems to me that the LV ran the wiring under the truck to get to the rear. Am I right? It will change the scuff/sill plates depending on how it's done. I can make it up either way (all narrow and wiring under the truck or a narrow and a wide for running the wiring down one side of the floorboards).

I guess folks with LV's will need to let me know if they want all four narrow or two narrow and two wide plates.

I installed the rears in my truck yesterday. These are the copies I made using Eric's OEM orignals. I think they turned out decent. Let me know what you all think.

I have photos of the wiring side and the non-wiring side finished as well as the wiring side without the scuff plate. As I said earlier, the wiring switched sides between '74 and '76. The scuff plates should be reversable and I will be shipping WITHOUT holes drilled so you can position them as appropriate in your truck prior to drilling holes. Maybe you can even match up the holes that are already there.

I should be getting the aluminum back from the shop tomorrow. I'll post up pictures of the finished products once I have it and they are installed in my '55. I have one sheet that will be used for both FJ55 and FJ45LV sill plates. Once that sheet of aluminum is gone I will not be making more unless there are 18-20 pre-paid orders so if you want these now is the time to speak up. It's taken me a year to get this aluminum sheet!

OK, I finally got the peices back today. The first go round they screwed up and bent the scuff plates at a sharper angle than I wanted. I still need to add the gentle swoop up at each end after cutting them to length (that's the part that has had the shops refusing to do the bending earlier).

The "first try" sill plates with the sharp bends will be $30/set + shipping as I will not be using them on my trucks because they are not "OEM style". They are perfectly functional but not OEM in appearance. When those are gone they are gone, I'm not making more "errors"! The rest which have the smoother bends will be $60/set + shipping for either the FJ45LV or the FJ55 (they are not interchangeable as the FJ45LV has much larger door openings both front and back). I hope to post installed photos this weekend for the FJ55 only when I put them in my truck and make a set for my FJ45LV as well (but they won't getting installed for a while). I may have uninstalled photos earlier for both FJ55 and FJ45LV.
