tried it! no where near enough. mighty vac might pull 18" the small pump I bought from amazon barely got it down to 29" I could have used a little more vacuum but I think it's going to work out well.. picture tomorrow...

Yes I have one unbroken and one the was in pieces when I bought the 25. Not sure if their is another one out there. For that reason very protective of it. Have nothing against it being reproduced just don't want anything to happen to it. Won't mind having a couple and keep the original in a safe. I'm curious how a reproduction would hold up to the heat of a incandescent lamp. Area is so small doubt could find a LED that would fit and use the standard base.

can i get a picture of said lamp? I'll test the plastic with my heat gun and see how it holds up.

Not sure the 25 I have here in town still has the lamp. It's the one that had the good glass. A number of us have the part book but the whole license plate holder is MIA in the book. Only one I've seen pictured dropped below the bottom edge of the tub not above. I'll check it out tomorrow. I guessing it may be the same lamp used in the 61 to early 74 rear license plate light used on the FJ40.

center one came out the best but it got a spec of dust or something in it. I think the one that is in the mold now will be perfect.

Hello, I was just reading the blog of the FJ40 restoration, you are a talented man. Where did you get all the parts to do the soft top conversion? I think it looks better than the hard top. Congratulations. and this horn button fabrication- you are so far beyond my comprehension, awesome!!!!!

A lot of people wanted them... I plan to make around 15... that will take about a month though. If guys want to paint/buff them on their own they can have it for the price of shipping. It is the wet sanding/buffing/painting that takes quite a bit of time.

not going to work as a lens... 7.5 min at 170 degrees did this... a couple minutes of cooling turned it hard again

How hot does a lens get? these guys used 140 degree resin (basically what I'm using) to make a headlight lens....
or we could make it like this....

Great thread and great work. Reminds me of when I was in Dental school making resin quarters for the washer machines. It worked until they found out we were the only dental students in the building!
I used to do a lot of dental lab work and we used a pressure pot with water to remove bubbles from acrylic resin (methyl methacrylate).
