I agree it looks incredible...very nice work. Big question is, where did you get the flared fenders? Is that a kit that you can purchase complete, if so, where do you get it and what does it cost? I would imagine you have wheel spacers as well...lift...can you tell me a little about your flares and general set up that gives your truck that incredible curb appeal / stance? Again, great work!!

For more pics of my truck and my flares check this thread.

The flares are made by a company here in Iceland, the company is called Formverk. Their web page is formverk.is and if you click brettakantar you will find some more pics of their flares. Have no idea about the price of these flares right now but I´m sure they will answer if you mail them and ask. formverk@formverk.is their e-mail.

amazing work, love the diy part. Nicely done!
Looks different all right.
Can't help but think that the air passage looks a bit small, though. Ideally, you'd want that to be much bigger than the original parts given the extra length. Is that the case?

I did some calculations on the stock intake before I started the build. The snorkel itself is wider than the stock pipe. The pipe through the fender is the tightest part of the whole system. But for over a year I have been using the same size pipe to extent my intake up closer to the firewall.

I will probably hook up the snorkel tomorrow and start driving with it connected.
What will happen if the snorkel is to tight?

It looks great! Fabulous work. The nicest part is that it is clearly superior to my Safari Snorkel, both in appearance and quality. I have seen other Safari Snorkels after years of use and the grill on the snorkel head eventually rots out and falls apart.

Congratulations on your great work!

Thkq Sir  Its given me some ideas on the sizing of tubes. A carrier for bikes/fruits/bbq/camping gear is what i'm after...

Yr snorkel is looking great ! I agree that it should line up with the windscreen as with other angles with the cruiser visual lines...btw, check for whistling at different speeds b4 version 2 :)

The engine won't perform as well as it could... think trying to breath under water with a straw instead of a large snorkle

True the finish is much nicer but the safari does has some advantages
1. larger intake - the ram part allows for much more air to go in

2. the head is removable allowing for a sock pre filter to be installed or a pre cleaner head from donaldson

If this one had a provision for installing a pre cleaner head it would be awesome because it looks a million times better than a safari snorkle.

Just a small update.

Now I have been driving for one week with the snorkel connected. I cant feel any difference in performance after hooking it up. A larger diameter pipe through the fender is better I´m sure.

I took a trip last weekend where you have to cross a few rivers and creeks. I did some splashing in the rivers where the water sprayed over the top of the truck and when I opened the drain plug in the end I had a little water in the tube from the water trap. I guess the total amount of water was close to two tablespoons or so.

Not bad, but I´m thinking of changing the intake a bit. I´m thinking about removing the lower half of the intake (under the net, the part facing the top of the car) and perhaps to bend the upper part a bit down in the rear.

Not sure when I will find the time to do these mods.

In the end I´m still happy with it.

I don't think you will feel any difference. The opening in the Safari Snorkel is major overkill. I have mine on backwards because my original Snorkel head was pulled off and shattered when I caught it on an overhanging tree branch. I have put my hand on the face of snorkel head when my wife was driving the truck and you cannot feel the air being drawn in even when the accelerator is pressed to the floor. That tells me that the amount of air being drawn in can be drawn through a much narrower tube.

Sorry for the downer, but I think you just copied this:

SNORKEL - rocasilva

A Spannish company that makes the same design snorkels; 715 euro for our 80, though.

I know. RocaSilva inspired me but it is not a direct copy. If you look at the link in the first post of this thread you will find discussions about them.

The price of the roca silva snorkel is way too high for me and I don´t like the look of them perfectly so I just made my own. I have invested something close to 120 euros in this one.

DUDE?
If you took the time to read the first post in this thread
quoted here:

Some of you may have seen this tread, there I was wondering about making my own snorkel from fiberglass.

I decided to make a new thread only about that fiberglass experimental snorkel.

And you take the time to follow that link in it, you will see that the OP makes reference to that web and their designs, and he makes it clear from the start.

Sorry to be a downer.... Part#2

Sorry for the downer, But have you noticed the fact that Haffi built this with his own two hands?
And, it doesn't even look identical.

Sorry Haffi, I think your snorkel is awesome (and your rig). Have been following your thread for a bit, but never subscribed until now.

Ya, why you ripping people off haffi!

JK, yours still looks better. I wish I had your skill!

I wish I had your skills and your balls to take on projects like, everything you've done!

Well done sir!

Jeremy

Ps. when you start producing them, I'd like to be a dealer. thanks.

Skemmtileg hönnun hjá þér Haffi þetta kemur rosa vel út!, er að fatta það núna að þetta ert þú þegar ég sendi þér mail um daginn að spurja um snorkelið hehe. Hvernig er það, notaðir þú mótið sjálft og gerðir snorkelið úr því eða áttu mótið ennþá ;) ??
Ég væri svo til í að smíða svona.

Takktakk, ég smíðaði bara þetta eina, gerði ekkert mót.

Just seen the thread revival on this mod, seriously excellent and one of the best DIY mods I have seen. Would I have one, you bet but, as Spain is a bit 'funny' about mods it would need a licence number that it is approved for the yearly inspection, that will cost money so the Spanish market may not be open to you?

Great job!

regards

Dave
