New tires. New steering damper is in place. New tie rod and relay rod ends. Front axle is rebuilt.

One thing I read about it worn output shaft bearing on the transfer case. How can I check that?

Was this shimmy there before the front-end rebuild?

For the output shaft bearings on the transfer:
1. park the truck on level ground
2. chock the wheels so the truck will not roll at all (chock two wheels in two directions for safety)
3. put the truck in park (while chocked) then shift the transfer case into neutral
4. grab the rear driveshaft where it bolts to the transfer case and try to wiggle it up and down, then side to side

If there is any axial (side to side or up/down) movement at all, the transfer case should be rebuilt.

The thing is vibrations on an old truck can come from any number of things, good luck tracking it down

Normally when the output shaft bearing starts to fail it is accompanied by leaking fluid since the shaft is now wobbling and eating up the seal. But it may not have gotten this bad yet, so don't just base it on leaking fluid.

Excessive slop is also present. Try pushing up or down on the driveshaft at the T-case if it moves up and down its a good bet the bearing is worn.

EDIT: This has some great info on how to diagnose things wrong in the trans or T-case

This is all new after all that work.

Initially, there was a squeal when reversing under power. @NCFJ greased the ujoints and it didn't go away. Then I had the ujoints replaced and the vibration started (and caster correction shims installed if that matters). Driveshaft was rebalanced and the vibration is still there (though less).

Yes, the vibration started then.

Too lazy to reread the thread ..... has anyone mentioned checking shaft to see if it is in phase?

Who did the work and how long ago?

AAA worries me. I have yet to meet someone who has had good experience with their service. My neighbor had to take them to court once, they screwed up his daughter's SUV royally. Firestone likes to use air guns, over torque nuts so hard I need a 36" pipe to get them undone.

No. What does that even mean?

It means when the two parts of the shaft were slid together it was done as shown below:

U-JOINT PHASING.webp

I've never had a 'cruiser that the PO phased the shafts correctly. I have had to remove and re-phase both shafts on every truck. To be honest, though, I haven't been able to tell much difference in noise or vibration. It can't hurt and I want things to be right. That's why I do it.

Doh!!! I forgot about that part. Add what I said and what Rice said and you have to two parts of Driveline Phasing

If you need an extra set of eyes to confuse the situation further PM me. I'm in Charlotte and would love to see your rig.

I also can help take up space with a beer and a clipboard possibly for a bit this weekend.

I can bring the 60 that shakes, leaks, and squeals... Not sure if a side by side helps.

I'll send you a PM and we can all shoot the s*** around the cruisers.

@CruizerHound @joyRidaz

You guys free Saturday morning around 1030? Going to try to meet @JohnVee at OMB. We can check out trucks and then go grab a beer.

@Flick are you free to bring the cover by (or I can come by earlier on my way)

Anyone else who wants to come should stop by..

Got some kid coverage this AM so I should be able to get there closer to 1030 than I initially thought.

And I have a parking lot mini HAMON for whomever shows up, nothing messy or difficult. We need to loosen up my roof rack and move it back 5 inches.... It may or may not have moved forward after clipping my garage door while backing out.
