First thought was to use the early 80's battery box to separate the filter from the rest of the engine bay but it wouldn't work with the size of tank that I wanted so Marc suggested using the tank to build a separator. Which actually turned out really well. 4" intake pipe to the turbo.

it sure is purdy!

I think it was a great idea/suggestion too, they have to fabricate and relocate the coolant overflow but with it out of the way there should be some cool air coming in that corner. And Bak has custom made inverted velocity stack filters so it should work quite well.

Truck was nice before, but now it is just nasty! Everytime I check this thread its worse than before. Jeez, what a build.

Quick question for you Ryan, does EMS have dyno numbers posted anywhere?

Beautiful work Ryan. Now you just got to hope some obscure part hidden deep beneath them purdy welds doesnt go belly up in the middle of moab. At least the starter is easier to get to ;)

Jfz80,

Funny you say that but it was one of my requirements. There is nothing critical hiding under there!! There is a small section of wiring harness going to oil pressure sensor and the I/C partially covers the cruise control control box. I think even the headlight bulbs can be changed if I pull the filter. :)

Up to this point all of the customers have been very custom because they have all wanted what they wanted. Like me, the BW EFR7670 wasn't a turbo in their lineup, I wanted a custom tank to replace the plastic windshield washer reservoir. I wanted a 3" downpipe for future expandability. Some people want stock intake so they can use a snorkel, some people want least restrictive possible, some people want stock fueling others like me want new injectors and pumps.

EMS will have their "base system" dyno numbers soon. I am sure you will face the same problem with your kit, people will want a certain brand turbo, different sized intercoolers, etc. I don't envy you vendors at all.

Quick question for you Ryan, does EMS have dyno numbers posted anywhere?

Tell me about it. But hey, all part of the job. Looking good so far. When do they expect to finish?

We are shooting for Friday.... We will see. Tonight or maybe tomorrow the coatings should be done, so it should be a day to bolt it back together and run lines, build catch can and coolant overflow. Then I have them changing the injectors, changing the A/C evaporator, Expansion Valve, and Dryer and then doing the LSPV, all the brake lines and flushing the system, and there is a consultant coming in to do the transmission work. My Stoptech rotors were on backorder until 7/4 so I will have to do rotors, pads, and a front end rebuild sometime later.

Seems like the "Hey lets throw a turbo on my truck" idea just snowballed. Not to mention both Bak and Marc, think a lot like I do and when there are corners to be cut, one of us always ensures that sense is talked into the others, and it is done right. lol.

Ha! :flipoff2:

Well it is my fault, I just can't leave s*** alone. EMS had a system all jigged up and ready to go, they have turbo selection done, there is no need for a 650hp intercooler, or a massive heat exchanger, but NOOOO of course I had to come up with my own stuff. Source all my own parts, of course the EFR turbo is longer than other turbos so changes had to be made. But it will be worth it in the end.

Oh and my LSPV took a crap on the tow truck on the ride up???? How that happened I have no idea! It was fine never had any issues, unload it off the flatbed and it's leaking all over the shop floor, so that was unexpected, and of course the "while you are in there" happened and I figured might as well do the 7 rubber lines, and get all of the old brake fluid out and some new stuff in there.

And well the A/C, in the last year I have had it die on me a couple times, I think it was the expansion valve, I bought an expansion valve and dryer, 6 or 8 months ago, but I can't find them so I have to buy them again. :-/ But I also bought an evaporator from Coolstream a vendor on the board and will do it at the same time.

The dryer will be mounted behind the bumper for this truck I am not too worried about it. It's major offroad trips are simply places like engineer pass, Ophir pass, black bear, the easier trails in Moab etc. for any serious offroading I have learned that you cover much more ground on a motorcycle or ATV and can get places you can't get even in an 80. Not to mention what's rough at 15mph in an 80 can be done at 35mph on a motorcycle. This truck is basically a "just encase s*** happens" truck.

Who would have thunk it?

Bahahahaha.

Have looked for about two hours to link, but somewhere on PBB, there's similar sentiments (circa 2005??) along the lines of "hey, want to throw 80 axles under my 55" almost verbatim.

We all know the avalanche that resulted.

Don't ask what I was searching for when I found :8, but chuckled.

Ain't this fun?

Haha did you find my "ultimate 55" thread on pirate from 10 years ago?? So funny! I was all about putting Unimog U1300 axles and a turbo 4bta. Funny how ideas change. But I would eventually someday like to build that monster 55. Lol. If only time and money were limitless! Ha
