Bump!!

What is that rear 14 bolt out of? Did you have to modify it at all? is it passenger drop or centered?

I'm diggin the bead locks, where did you get them?

I love your Lex... This is the direction that mine is going as well, I'm just doing the bodywork first!
thanks. i love wheeling and not worrying about breaking. the only bodywork i do is denting it then removing it! :hillbilly:

got them from great lake offroad. a friend of mine sells their stuff.

Can you get me a set of rock rings that look like that??

its out of an early 80's chevy single rear wheel. no mods, its just a regular centered 14bolt.

Gotcha. So you didn't worry about making sure it was perfectly lined up with the T-case. I know you trailer it, but have you driven it on the road enough to know if that causes any driveline vibes? I'm assuming it would...? but I figured I'd ask. That would be a nice easy swap if it worked and drove nicely.

i probably could but my guy just has them shipped to his shop in fayetteville, wv. it would probably be easier for you to contact great lake offroad Weld On BeadLock Kits
i can email you the graphics that i sent him if you want to give me your email.

i didnt line it up with the transfer case. the only thing i did was make sure the pinion flange on the axle was at the same angle as the transfer case flange. no vibes at all. i have driven it numerous times to a local wheeling spot thats about 25mi away between 65-70mph and it drives great. the only reason i quit driving it much because i cant keep tail lights in it, i broke one headlight out, and broke the passenger front window and mirror. i just gave up trying to keep it legal.

if you dont try to go too crazy with the swap, its not that bad. i reused everything from the rear suspension-the track bar, upper/lower links, all the toyota bolts for the links and trackbar, and the ome shocks that i had on there. on the front i used the stock control arm mounts on the frame (had to widen them a little for the joints i bought), the stock track bar, and the ome shocks. i already had a budbuilt drag link so i just drilled and tapped one end to fit a chevy tre and it was just long enough to reach the hi-steer arm. all i had to get was control arms, joints, and brackets for front and rear.

Hmm, that's interesting. I'm sure I could source a rear full floater 14-bolt cheaper than a full float 80 axle (I have the semi-float). That's good to hear. I figured that keeping the two flanges parallel would be the way to go about it and that the longer wheel-base of the 80 would be little more forgiving.

Thanks!

anytime. if you have any other questions, let me know.

so im posting my experience so far. i had redneck ram (west texas offroawanted to post some pics and info about my hydro assist set up. there wasnt much info out there about how well the stock 80 steering system works with hydro assistd) rebuild my box with a new sector shaft and seals from toyota and then port and tap it for the assist..

Hi,

I'd love your Ram assist steering setup using toy box and would like to do the same as you did. I have questions if you dont mind to answer :
As for sector shaft, is it just regular rebuild or you have to change the shaft in oder to make the ram assist work ?
Can you post more photos on the gearbox especially on where the port must tap ?

Erwin.

here's a few pics of where the box is tapped.

@WV_LX450 :

Thanks alot bro...

Oh...another question :
how much oil you put into ram assist system ? Are you replace the hydraulic reservoir tank with the bigger one ?
How is it feel ? Are the steering will go back straight after hard turn ?

im not sure how much fluid i used after i put the ram and bigger res on. i think i put around 2 quarts in but its been a while and i could be wrong. i used the trail gear reservoir (just had to bend one of the tabs to make it fit) and drilled a hole in the cap to put a fitting in to vent the system. im also running 2 small coolers behind the grill.

steering feel is great now. i never have any issues getting the tires to turn even when bound up in the rocks. it returns to center just like the normal steering setup. the only thing that can be an issue in the right situation is that the steering is slower. the only time i notice it is if im driving kinda fast in the woods and try to jerk the wheel to miss something. it basically wont let you.
