Do FJ80's have variable power assist like FZJ's and JDM's? Mine has it...wondering if that might have some effect on improved road feel? How does yours feel on the road Wrench?

Not sure if this helps anybody, but here's how my buddy did the hydro assist on his 3rd gen 4Runner running an FJ80 front axle. Just get the tie rod to the front and it will be much easier :)

Just saw this magnum thread and ongoing reinvention....those planning on ever running the "heatsink" type coolers....you may want to reconsider as they are a single pass type and the heat transfer is really poor. While doing my project some time back, I did my research on this very topic of heat transfer. Including testing them in real time. Keep in mind, bigger is better with respect to hydro on these trucks or any for that matter. You can overheat these pumps/ gearboxes which kills components.
As a matter of fact, just went through a customer's pump that failed do to heat damage. Long story short, ditch the ATF and run proper fluid.

Feels fine on the road. Feels like normal steering.

ok, so Wrench, you are saying that there is 10" of movement if I were to reference a fixed point on the tie rod bar from stop to stop.

I will check it.

Yes. 5" one way and 5" the other.

I'm following your lead here and it looks like mine has 9.75" of travel stock from lock to lock. 10" obviously works though so an internal spacer may not be required. Thanks for all the details from your build!
