Hk guys
Been finding good tech here for years. Did a search and only finding a couple posts on the subject.
Currently doing an LS conversion in a 72 FJ40.
Using 5.3 or 6.0 (have both)
4l60e
Atlas tcase
Linked front and rear.
96"ish wheelbase
D60/14b
37 krawlers
Full bodied (recent quarters, door sill, rockers etc)

So my question is what radiators have you guys been using for your LS swap?
Would like to push radiator all the way forward to the headlight buckets if possible. obviously stock brackets not necessary.
Radiator and hose set ups from those that are running similar set up

Thanks for your help

Also what fan set up? Thank you

I used the Champion 4core radiator with a Volvo fan in a custom made Shroud. I am pretty sure champion is now offering radiators with shrouds and SPAL fans which are awesome. If you search my screen name yoully find my build thread and I put all the part numbers in it.

There is a flexalite universal one that fits well. The finned one. Can also come with a nice electric fan and shroud.

Thank you to those that responded so far.
Lil john will look see if that radiator will fit a 40. Will use hose numbers for sure

Bad samaritan i will check your build thread for sure

eric wilm search flexalite

Any other input would be appreciated
Thank you

I've been using a Maradyne electric fan with the OEM radiator for over a year with my 5.3 swap. Works perfect. Zero overheating issues so far. I did build a shroud for the fan. My radiator was only a couple of years old anyway, so I decided to use it. If the electric fan does decided to crap out, I will probably go with the stock clutch fan and build a shroud to fit.

Have similar electric fans on the previous incarnation. Very mild 350. Factory radiator shroud. Dont remember the fan brand but highest cfm available for the size. Always ran hot.
May try that again with aluminum rad.

You can also check out Ron Davis radiators, that's what I have, with Spal fan. If it's done the right way, it will work fine. Ron Davis also makes a radiator that will fit into FJ40 original radiator bracket. I know countless people who run this set up with BB, SBC, small block 400 (which are known to run hot) and they stay cool. Run a complete heat test on whatever your set up will be, and you should be good to go.

Ff lc freak what are you doing for the steam port fitting?

I went with the Jags that Run adapter that plugs into the upper radiator hose. LS1 Steam Vent Tee for V8 engine swap It looks like it went up about $20 since last year. I want to say I spent about $25-30 for it last year. Not sure I'd still pay $46 for it now considering there's cheaper alternatives.

Im running a 5.3 with an ebay champion 3 row radiator, 1400cfm electric fan with modified stock 40 shroud/rad support (pushed as far forward as possible by slotting the support mounts at the front xmember), a clockable speedway water pump inlet and an 04ish suburban upper rad hose cut to fit (has the right radius coming up from the pump). Welded up a little reducer to mate the burb hose to the rad inlet. For the steam port bypass I just drilled and tapped the water pump beside the outlet and screwed in a brass nipple then ran the steam port hose to that.

On a hot day normal operating temps hover between 190 and 204f. Wheeling on a hot day I've seen 216f and it has never gone higher.

Wish I had more detailed pictures for you, good luck man.

I used a custom Griffin radiator in my latest FJ45 conversion. It is a 19" x 27".

Engine is an LQ4 (6 liter) and I use the stock fan.

I asked the great folks at Griffin to include ports for the oil cooler lines (blue) and the Vortec steam port.

Even without a shroud, this radiator does a great job. I have a tranny cooler sitting in front of the Griffin, and have no heating issues. Lil'John's hose numbers should work with this setup.

Did you make your own radiator support?

@OldRocDoc I'd like to get the details of your ECU plastic protective cover? I need something similar but haven't found one.

Another way.

Would you happen to remember the part numbers for the hoses you used?
