I'm looking for a low profile roof rack for my LX450. I've read through the threads and see info on quite a few, including the Bajaracks, ARB, Gobi, etc. I'm curious what you all w/ racks recommend for one that's lightweight, low profile, and preferably connects via the existing space where the OEM rack is connected versus using the additional connectors that go down the sides ? Thanks in advance.

Assuming I understand your comment: If you are planning to carry any significant weight at all up on your new rack, I would forget about using the original roof mount locations currently used for the OEM rack. One, I doubt anybody makes an AM rack that mounts to the port-installed nutserts in the roof, and even if they did those nutserts are quite weak (and would rip out with any real weight on a rack that is then subject to typical loading forces while off road or in an accident). You are really only looking at AM roof racks that mount to the rain gutters along the side. HTH. Cheers, J

scottryana, that is one sweet rack. very nice.

western flyer, thanks for the input. the good thing is that does open up my options quite a bit.

Just bent up some 5" wide gutter mounts and made it low profile :D

Had mine made in Houston by an aluminum fabricator, not sure you could get much more low profile. Lol

I dig that rack. I bet Tom Sheppard would approve.

Frontrunner, I went with the lower gutter mounts and its tight to the roof within 2" to the underside max., also you can attach almost anything to them and where ever you want.

I have the same rack scottryana has but in steel. This rack has taken some serious abuse and will pull off the roof before anything breaks.

I took the double high ARB rack and just cut the top off cleaned and repainted. Cheap and easy.

If you want the absolute best go with www.labrak.com, the owner shane is meticulous with his products. His stuff is just the best quality out there.

Any pics out there of the labrak on an 80? None on the website, which also says they are free for the 80's ;)

This is mine from DiamondRax.
