i started this thread trying to ID a bumper someone gave me. i think i am being told it is an "early" or "low profile" (?) JDM bumper.
if it will fit properly i thought i would install it and sort of passively look for the winch support and eventually maybe a winch.
my OEM one is long gone after someone bashed it in trying to do a 3 point turn.
can anyone help me figure out if this bumper will fit on a 97 LX 450?
i do see that the two struts that came off my OEM bumper are shorter then the ones on this one. and also the sort of vertical metal hangar pieces have a slightly different profile.
can anyone help me see if i have all the parts i need to swap out this slee for this JDM?(!)
parts on the left are just a bunch of bolts i have from doing radius arms and a bunch of other stuff but some i think are probably for the bumper.
THANKS
ALSO: does anyone know if the 96/97 Lx450 bumper is the same as the 95-97 toyota bumper?

The screws and plastic spring nuts (6 total of each) in the lower left corner of the fittings pile pic are for the license plate . The 2 longer ones may have to do with attaching the winch cover. Narrows that down a little. Interesting find

i realized my comment about the length of the stays is not clear.
my lexus lx 450 stay is in red.
rhe one existing in the JDM bumper is at the green arrow.
my stay for my old bumper is shorter than the one in this bumper?

thanks on the license plate thing. and all your help.
i was kind of not clear but all of the hardware shown here is from my truck. so either it came off the bumper that someone hit when i had to take it off or it was from somewhere else on my truck (or possibly in the "various" bag it could even be off my tacoma probably.

No, the bumpers are not the same. However for your needs they pretty much are close enuff. It's the outer ends that are the spot where they are different because the cladding and flares on the LX are subtly different than on the 80 series to suit and smooth transition to match the lines of the LX side treatment. There will be some differences in the bracing with what you are looking at here, but that is due to the need to properly mount and brace the winch. It wouldn't surprise me if there are no difference between the LX and 80 bumpers as far as bracing behind the bumpers is concerned, it will be the winch and standard versions that differ.

You have the two different frame horns, start with them, use those which mount the bumper most correctly in relation. to what's behind it. After that, it's a matter of building the correct tray for mounting the winch.

All that bolted up should get you most of the way to what is missing to be obvious, but what you have is good enough to carry the winch around until it can be created/purchased/installed.

hey GT, all.
thanks. i got part ways there today.
i had to tele odd this sort of "snub nosed horn" part. i think it interferes with mounting the bumper. i can take another stab at it but i couldn't quite get it in with that additional part.
the other issue is that there is hardware on the inside of the early bumper. it's a female threaded hole and a rubber sort of ball joint.
but i don't see anywhere in my truck to mount it.
anyone have any ideas here?
also in the next email i show where it seems like it is not as wide left to right. meaning the early no fender flares bumper is like a total of 2-3" less wide than - well less wide than the actual fender flares on the later 80 series. i could measure it so it would be interesting to know how wide a mounted later 80 series bumper is i guess.
also it would be good to know for sure if the "snub horn parts" don't get used on the early 80 series? and if the frame where they mount is the same as the late 80 series.

her i can see where the earlier bumper on the vehicles with no fender flares (?) must be less wide than the later bumper on the vehicles with fender flares? since this bumper is inside the outside edge of the fender flares.
i'll measure the width and it would be interesting to find out the width of the late 80 series bumper i guess?
i had a bit of trouble bolting it up fully so this is only partially on.

Yes, the early bumpers were narrower necause of the different flares. Sorry, I don't have a later bumper on hand to measure though. Looks OK in the front on pic IMO

gents,
YELLOW here is the "top hat" connector that seems like it came of my old bumper that i do not have. RED is what is on the earlier style bumper.
i can't figure out how to attach the side pieces to my truck (shown in a red box here).
does anyone know how these fender side pieces attach to the truck? i'm not sure what i am missing here.
THANKS

thanks for the help here. i wasn't clear on my last post and didn't post everything i meant to which is above.
i can't figure out though how to attach the side pieces.
there is an existing assembly on the side pieces on this bumper in RED here. YELLOW is what was in the parts from my old bumper.
and i can't see from that video how/where this existing assembly in RED attaches to my truck.

The bumper from my old 80 got sold when I ARBed it. My LX 450 came pre-ARBed, I only have the flare fittings in that area to go by. They attach only to the fender at the very front end. My guess, since they are at the bumper end, is that this is where the 80 vs. the LX450 difference show up. It's too far from the bumper center tio be simething structural related to the winch IMO. IIRC, the bumper ends are plastic and might otherwise vibrate withiout gther. raj

AFAIK, the LX 450 - at least in the US - never came with a factory winch, thus there is nothing OEM that is specifically relevant out there in the bumper ends, so most likely some improvisation will be needed. I'm going tio take a quick look at the parts diagrams for both my old and new truck and will advise if something shoiw up there.

Comparing the parts diagrams, they're pretty much the same. What I don't have access to is a partts diagram with the winch bumper. My guess us that's what's different. If you could find another LX and 80 both woth stock bumpers intact, then take some pics for reference purposes.

thanks. i'm curious how either the LX or LC attach at the sides here i guess.
right now the hardware attached to the early JDM doesn't come anywhere close to attaching but also i don't see where the stock LX is supposed to attach either?
