Talk about beating a subject into the ground.

I talked to Heather about a transport company from Baltimore area to Charlotte and she figures about $350- $400. Go look at it, do the deal and have a transport company haul it. Far less hassle and cheaper in the long run.

If you are serious, send me a PM and I will work with Heather to put you in touch with a shipper.

I very much agree on this point. If you could pay 500-750 to ship it down it's well worth it. That's a long drive up and back. Def some value in letting someone do it for you!!!!

Have to agree. So many things can go wrong while trailering something. I pull trailer alot and it is like riding a motorcycle. You have to keep watch so far out ahead you do not enjoy the drive at all.

Yes your dads 1500 will do it.
No it's not worth it.

You've asked for opinions and gotten the whole spectrum so there's not a lot of what do y'all think room left. If you haven't already contacted Stan or river runner then you haven't really explored the other options provided. While i am all for adventures and have done some questionable stunts in the name of land cruisers shipping looks more reasonable for your situation.

While fj40z used a 1500 v6 dodge to haul a 40 back from MI without issue other than a rediculously steep driveway at sellers the risk to reward factor is mute. Plus his probably weighed less with all the rust lol. However the ticket risk Ramon noted and the inexperience of trailering point to shipping.

I understand the situation too, Been there. I picked mine up from Canada but drove 12 hrs to meet the buyer over a long thanksgiving break in NY to inspect and secure and we used Uship.com to secure a reasonable price to ship to nc. Heck I even got him to split it with me.

$416 bux Niagra ny to Greensboro nc.
Can't beat that. Gas alone would have been close to that and is be driving i95 in a 33 yr old unknown vehicle. No thanks..... But I did consider it :D
Granted you have to add the cost of the first trip should you chose to make it but if so make that the adventure.

Ok. Yeah I think after hearing all the advice from y'all I'm leaning towards having it shipped. I sent Aaron (riverrunner), Stan, and Jim (trulyvintage) a pm. So I think I'll be able to figure out having it shipped. For now towing with my dads truck is out of the question, and the uhaul route is on the back burner. I'm gonna try to have this figured out by the end of the weekend. We're planning on going up early morning Wednesday the 18th so we'd be there by about 2 or so. We're going to spend the night and hopefully can make a stop at iron pig on the way back.

Anyone heard from brysen? Was suppose to go up today to look at it.

Well... I've got some good news! I'm now the proud owner of a 1977 FJ40! We decided to buy it after looking it over yesterday and again this morning. Just have to figure out the shipping deal now! I'm so excited!

I agree with Jason. I drove from raleigh to boca raton for a 40, using my grandfathers F150 (nearly new) and a borrowed trailer. I've had experience trailing so that wasn't a concern and the tow rig had less than 5k miles on it.

Drove down, slept and then drove back. It was miserable, but luckily no issues. I would gladly drop 500-1k bucs to ship if I had a do over.

Congrats on the purchase and post up some pics!!!

Thanks for the congrats! I drove for about 4 hours on the way home and then my phone died so I was without for a good part of the trip back. Charging up now. Pics being uploaded in a few.

Sorry for the delay on the pictures (my bad). She's not perfect (at least in my eyes she is) and she's gonna need some work but I'm ready and I can't wait! How'd I do?

Note: I do realize the doors and top are different colors so they aren't the original ones with the truck (first owner sold them). Am planning on repainting down the road once I get the money, time, and once I have her in good mechanical shape. I also have the 2 sets of amby doors and jump seats, and an extra front door at my house already. The top that is on there isn't the best one either. The really good one is still at the guys house with the 40 along with some other extra parts we didn't bring back.

Brysen,

It looks like you have got something there that you can work with...much better than some of the ones you looked at. This one looks like a great place to start. Congratulations and Merry Christmas to you! Let me know when you get it home and I'll be glad to come by and lend a hand.

Search " fsm for a hell of a price". Trollhole should have the fsm linked for download. You will need it.

Thanks Dave! I would really appreciate it if you would be willing to come help teach me a thing or two on how to work on her! That would be great! It needs the distributor reinstalled (he has a brand new one from trollhole) and the static timing reset (do you know anything about this)? Merry Christmas to you too.
