$8900 for a fiberglass truck. Umm...no thanks! I would pass on that one if it were me.

Agreed, something about a glass 40 seems soulless

If 40 is solid the body can be replaced with aluminum as well or start collecting original body parts and build it back up out of steel.

^^ you better show up in person, with a friend, and cash. Dont send PP $$$ That cruiser should not last long.

I tried that one last week. That one is a scam. The number listed is a fax machine. I emailed the seller through Auto trader and just heard back today(a week later). Seller (scammer) says vehicle is in Arizona (not in VA as ad suggests) and he is deploying to Afganistan and he will ship it for free if I pay through some third party company....blah blah blah....typical scammer crap. Don't waste your time. It takes a real scumbag to impersonate an active duty military person in an effort to pull off an internet scam.

@CLTFJ - game on! Good price and just enough work to make it a project truck...

Hopefully it's the real deal. Talk to the guy to feel him out before going for the drive.... If it's legit it likely won't last long.

Don't be scared by the square bezel, it won't bite

That one looks like a contender! Thanks! I emailed him and will try calling as well. I don't think I could drive down until Sat morning due to work, so hopefully he doesn't sell it beforehand. I just did a CL search last night and didn't see this one - thanks for looking out.

That one looks pretty rusty as are most of the 79-82 trucks that have lived in the South. The metal on the late trucks is thin. Be very sure of your ability to perform (or your ability to pay for) rust repairs before you buy that one. They always look better in pictures than they do in person too. Having said that I hope this one works out for you.

Thanks for the sanity check.

Guy emailed back and said a local guy is looking at it today but I'm next in line. So it might already be sold

Hard to tell much from the pics but it almost looks like the rockers and factory steps were chopped off and some sort of nerf bar step installed in their place. Rear quarters are rusted through. I'd bet money the sill is toast too. Rust is part of cruiser ownership. We all deal with it to some extent. Just be careful....

@roadstr6 - good eye... I missed that.

Unfortunately it seems that rust on the quarter panels is almost expected for anything under ten these days.

For 6g's having a hard too and all matching panels, doors, orig engine/trans, solid fenders(?), and having it run seems pretty decent for a late model. Too bad about the carb and sidesteps but that can hopefully be rectified.

For another ten large u can have a very respectable cruiser that will still require some work or will have some non-orig "amenities".

Time is money, and cruisers seems to eat up both... But they are loads of fun, and you'll never get confused as to which car in the parking lot is yours... That is unless happen to go to OMB on a Sunday afternoon once a month!

Good luck! Post some pics if u check it out, we can attempt to do a real time assessment while you're checking it out.

Yeah, I would have bought that '82 for $12,500 all day. Unfortunately, it was a scam.

There's this one - '78 in good shape, 1.5hrs away from me, looks like minimal rust or issues (other than upside down bezel ;)) but it's listed for $32k! ouch. :bang:

This was for sale on CL about 2 years ago, IIRC. Price was much lower but still high.

So what are your thoughts on if I should run away based on those pics? Rear sill, rear quarters completely rusted, hood rusted, assume the rest is in similar shape, i would have no idea how expensive that would be to fix. If I could get it cheap enough, maybe still an option? I don't want to dump $6k, it be too big of a project and then have to sell it for $2k and learn an expensive lesson.
