I have a 1964 FJ40 and the light socket plug is broken and only works if I wiggle the plug..and it was smacked at one point and a part broke off. The Toyota part number (81402-29016) indicates the currently available plug is for 68+ I think.

Does anyone know if it will fit the 1964? Pics below for measurements. Looks like the newer plug has different connections on the engine side which is easy enough…as long as the screw holes line up it would work.

No clue about fitment. I would just repair the socket you have. Some epoxy putty (thick) and duct tape to hold the missing area in place until the epoxy sets up. Next glue a thin piece of plastic with the slots cut over the front to stiffen the repair. You might need to epoxy the metal prong inside in place first. I never had the light for mine tho the socket is in the glovebox or below it. One of those cig lighter powered 1000000 candle power spot light was cheap and handy. Now I just a rechargeable magnetic LED spot/flood unit and rechargeable head lamp. Not a purest.

Ebay has light and socket for $68 or $38 just for the light. Both real Mr. T aledgeably.

Well, this one is missing a broken piece and it looks wonky so if a new one fits, I’ll just grab one from Toyota while they are 25% off. I’m not a purest either, but I do want it to work…haha.

I understand. One of my PO favorite saying was you don't learn anything buying stuff new in the store, his second was if you have a hammer and a torch it has to fit. I generally like fixing stuff, design/modify/build skills are handy.

There could be a time when there is no resupply or you no longer are able to buy/sell. Skills and knowledge are the lightest things to pack on your back.

Unscientific measurement here because I've only got one test measurement example (good enough for government work but not here), but a trouble light from an '84 FJ60 has plug blades a wee bit bigger than the trouble light socket on my '63 FJ45. I found this out after I cracked the outlet trying to plug the light into it (I've since epoxied the broken piece back on but I haven't checked it other than with a multi-meter and it's hot). At some point I was going to grind down the FJ60 blades to fit in this socket for future use but that's all apparently still in the future for me cuz I haven't done it yet 😄 . Have no idea if and when the light plugs got bigger for these lights. Maybe @dmamj has some info on them.

The pic from my microfiche set for the US and Canadian markets for the period from 03/69 to 07/80. See part ID'd as 81402. Also attached are a couple of pics from the light socket out of my Jan. '72 truck. The mounting holes are 39 mm center to center. The # = old p/n and the ( ) = new p/n. It appears most years covered in this microfiche set have been superceded to the 81402-29016. Good luck with your search and project.

The old socket and newer ones have slightly different mounting holes.
Thanks….that is what I discovered, but the newer ones should be able to be drilled to accommodate. That is my plan!
