My question is could I use the skyjacker FJ-40 lift on my FJ-45 I know the front ends are the same but the rears I am unsure of. I hope that I can because that would be the craps if I couldn't. Any help on the subject would be much apprieciated. Thanks

the rears unfortunately are different

rears..........very different :D

OME makes some, spendy however

Current issue of the toyota trails has a nice writeup of some TIC parabolics on an FJ45.. I happen to know personally they ride pretty nice (well better than my other trucks with OME and BDS springs) and flex like mad.

The alcan spring ones look good, but are they expensive? OME is incredibly expensive for me and look like they don't have any 4" lifts. I'm looking for a lift for about 750 max price depends though on if there is such a lift for that price although the skyjaker one for the FJ40 is 675 so maybe.

You are aren't going to find a lift for your 45 (complete) for 750 max. Alcan, which is what I run are great. You specify lift height and how much weight you want them rated at. These will cost you ~$200 per spring. So now you still have to go and get U-bolts, shocks, brakelines etc.

For 4"...hmmm...just reuse your stock springs and go SOA! :D

I think I will just save up for an alcan lift would you say that the lift without shocks costs about $900. I don't want to go through all the trouble of an SOA and axle wrap. Thanks guys you have been very helpful.

I think you are going to be around that. The springs will total 800. Then new U-bolts and possibly new shackles to fit the springs. You can buy or fab these up for pretty cheap. When you order, if you are going with 3 to 4" springs...make sure to order the shackle side of the spring 1" longer to help with shackle angle. Mine isn't great at all but when I go to the darkside...they will be good.

Hey FJBen,

I had been thinking of ordering alcans for my FJ55. Are you running alcans on your '55? If so, can you tell us more? About how much lift did the springs give you? What shackles/length are you using? Do the 35's stuff well? Pros and cons...Thanks, Carlos

Carlos, I am running Alcans on the Pig right now. I'll give ya as much info as I can on them. I wasn't the one who ordered the springs but I do know the specs on them. They are stock length FJ55 springs, 4" of lift and rated for 200lbs over stock up front (ie winch, etc) and 300 lbs over stock for the rear. This lift is a few years old and EVERY bit of 4" still. No saggin' wagon here. :D What you order is where it's gonna be at. So be conservative on the height/weight ratio. When he first (dan kunz on the 80's board here traitor :flipoff2: ) put them on, he said it was like a 6" lift til they settled.

Mine has a slight foward rake as you'll see in the pic due to the winch up front, and then no extra weight in the back. The cruiser rides pretty dang nice actually. Smooth on the highway with only potholes/jarring holes causing rough rides. It's no 80 series...but pretty damn good. The only thing I would reccomend is getting the springs 1" longer on the shackle side if you are going to go for 3.5 to 4" lift. This will help shackle angles, as you will see in the pics mine aren't great at all...but even with that it still rides good. The springs are build very nicely, military wrap, teflon friction pads. And you will need bigger shackles than stock, not huge, just bigger. I can highly recommend these to anyone. I love the ride and flex. I'm going to have Alcan de-arch them so I can use them spring over...then that will be sweeeeet. :D

Pros: Great flex, quality, ride, completely custom to your needs, affordable vs. others, Great customer support.

Cons: Larger lifts need you to make longer springs to help shackle angles, still have to buy everything else for lift...U-bolts, shocks, etc...

Not really bad cons...IMHO one the best spring makers out there.

First pic is poser shot, showing the ride height adn those are 35's.

This is a pic on the trail....my shock is maxxed here so I'd be interested to see if it would go more.

This is right after I got is...total POSER...but was the only thing around to flex on...my daughter has to go with me everywhere in "Pig" 33" swampers this time

Alright I found some shackles that are 1.5" longer than stock at Cool Cruisers and am now wondering what to do about the springs. Will the shackles give the truck 1.5" lift and in that case do i have to get the springs at 3" to keep it at about 4-4.5" lift?

shackles only lift half the height they list. they have to lift for the whole spring, but since the only go on one end...hence, half the lift.

long shot and definately not the best but.
what about blocks in the rear with an extended shackle?? toy pickups do it all the time.i did it worked great, wasnt the best or the safest but it worked.
why not get the rears made from alcan and run some 4" packs up front. they do just sell em in pairs.i know downey does, and also tpi.
or just soa the rear and run 4" up front.might have to take out a leaf or two.
i only bring up these wierd ways of lifting it because it seems as money is an issue, and if it where my fj45 i wouldnt be wheeling the hell out of it.so on road performance and "the look" might be the motivation.
keep it cheap,simple and fun
shawn
