I would consider purchasing if the unit was capable of using US standard units like Fahrenheit, MPH, etc. ... until then I will just watch.

I think the biggest problem is that Toyota changed our HVAC controllers every year or two.

I purposely bought a 2001 because it was the last year in the USA without the OEM navigation. In case anyone cares, even some of the last models of 2001 had the OEM navigation.

Really wish they would make this for the 1998-2002 LX. I'd love to update this ancient nav system. The AC controls are the limiting factor although they show the software being emulated.
Amazing Good News: my gread friends here:
We are going to make a head unit for Land Cruiser 100 and LX470 made until 2002.
Now this car is not available in China. Is there any friend willing send the original head unit in good condition to us?
then you may have a free after-market one or one with very very low price.
If you are insterested in it, please send its photos to us: canaviesales@gmail.com and we will discuss in detail.
thank you.

This is a long thread but what’s the latest sentiment on this vs the GROM v2? Is the 10” screen still buggy? And how hard is it to install this for someone?

I am interested in purchasing the product when you complete it! This is what my current radio/climate control looks like.

I can send you pictures of what the head looks like for a 100 Series 2002 Landcruiser built in July 2002. It does not have steering wheel controls. The 6 disc changer is in the armrest. As soon as you get it fig9ured out, I'd buy an android head unit. I don't need to use the cassette or DVD changer any longer, but others may feel differently.

Does the canavie unit retain steering functionality as far as volume, present change, call answer/hangup?

Any update? I’d be interested in buying one.

Interested if you can switch the metrics to Fahrenheit and MPH. '05 LX

@Canavie any plans to make the metrics switchable?

I have a real problem with the original headunit of my 04 HDJ100L 2.4TD.

The screen fades out, comes again, fails intermediatly complete for some days, works for several weeks normal.
During failure A/C is unserviceable.

I tried to fix the PIN60 issue, resoldered the PIN60+them around, no stable operation after. There is a crack or changing resistant between the connector/socket and pin socket at the first MFD platine connecting the second near the display screen.

So, I am considering about to change the 1.platine of the screen (Alibaba) or to replace the unit with an android (as Canavie sells).

The problem of the androids might be the update of the system after the years are gone. NAV will be affected, because these apps have the need to be updated (not only the maps, which will have compatibility problems with older apps). Newer apps needs a updated android os.

But the audio and a/c will remain even out of date os. These are the main functions.
From this point of view this does not really matter.

My fear is focused on a malfunction of the A/C Heater Vents . If this works reliable it´s a good deal to replace the head unit with an android.

Within EU we have only a hand full LC100 (LX470) from this time.
There is no market, no chance to get a new one from a local confidential dealer (giving support if necessary).
Alibaba or some foggy dealers are the only way to purchase. It remains a risk to transfer 500-700EUR to china, not knowing what you get, no support if anything doesnt work.

I am looking foreward to get one working used android (similar to seicane) from a confidential private LC enthusiast in EU (has an android, he doesnt like the handling of the A/C from the touchscreen only and replaces his original well working headunit).

Having worked up this issue I will post how it was to install and if it works as I expect.

Thank you for this link!
I have read it allready last week and thought about it. I am still waiting now to a reply from an confidental private person who intents to sell me an working used smaller android unit.
The Tesla Style Unit is impressive! Your posting is fine!

The problem is finding a reliable dealer who is able to sell the correct set of the unit itself and all needed cables, connectors, can bus adater et.c. incl. documentation about installing procedure and software setup (but following your thread it would be not difficult).

With Alibaba I have no experiences, I am not shure about.

Within Europe it´s difficult, nearby impossible to get.
From the partsouq I got original spares for my LC100/04 at a good price within days , out of the Emirates.
So a confidential car hifi dealer in the Emirates would be for me same as a local dealer in Europe in this aspect.

I owe it to some pre-purchase research on this forum for leading me to the same exact decision. Needed LATCH tethers, which became mandatory in the US in 2001. Wanted to install a custom stereo as well. So I literally just went looking for a 2001 model.

What @KillerBox and @Pyrenees said. I get jealous when I see a 03+ OEM non nav in the US here on mud, haha. That's one thing I miss from my old 5 speed 4.7L 4runner.

I believe now the manufacturer has improved their products... my unit came with 2 set of wiring for the CanBus. One was labelled (High) and the other one was labelled (mid and low) which refers to the vehicle trim whether it is top of the range or mid options.

So where are we as of 06.17.19?

My wife's sound went out on her 2005 LX and the replacement $600 ML amp I purchased and installed didn't resolve the issue.

Have we finally reached the point where where a tech-oriented DIY'er can swap out the factory NAV unit and retain functionality of everything (sans reverse camera, tape, factory NAV and CD's)?

If so, what brand/make/model do I purchase? I'd love to get the LX up and running before my better half gets back from her business trip!

Addendum:

FYI, I just installed a Joying Intel-powered head unit in my 911 and it is awesome! I basically just talk to the HU and it takes it from there.
