Hey all. As some of you know, I recently purchased a 1988 BJ75. When I bought it, she came with 33x12.5r15 BFG KM2. These tires are pretty much roasted. I want a narrow tire because at full lock, the tire is scraping the tie rod. I'm replacing the rims with OEM Toyota 15x5.5 steel, as the 15x8 I think looks a bit odd on my truck. I am half way through installing an OME 50mm kit.

With that said, I have narrowed my choices down to 31x10.5r15, 33x10.5r15, and 32x11.5r15

Who has personal experiences with any of these tire sizes with a vehicle similar to mine? Are the weight savings of the 31" worth it, or will I be missing the height. I've added the 32x11.5 to the list because the other two sizes have a more limited selection. I'm not really looking for which tire brand/model performs better, just in regards to sizing.

In my opinion the 33x10.50x15 is the near perfect tire.

Good point, I said the wrong part. Steering relay assembly? According to a parts diagram

The only thing I could see it touching is the leaf springs at full lock.

If it touches the tie rod it won’t be at full lock it will be 24/7.

Anyways, factory wheels and nothing will touch at all.

Good tire size choices, I would go a 33”-whatever.

Cheers

I have been using 235/85/16 the last 10 years. A much better tyre and rim size IMO. The overall height of the tyre fitted is pretty much the same as the 16 inch rim and tyre that comes with the current 7* series, close to 32". Keeps your speedo at 1% above what it should be, with the odometer almost exact.
I had 33" tyres before, it slows the acceleration and adds a load onto the brakes.

I just got a BJ70 and went through the same delima. Mine came with dry rotted 32x12.5x15 and I switch to KO2’s in 33x10.5x15 and much happier.

It looks great and no rubbing at all. I’m all stock suspension.

Running 255/85/16 and I certainly feel the load. My
Next set will be 235/85/16.

If getting new rims I honestly wouldn’t bother with a 15” and would certainly make the upgrade to a 16”

Or go to 16s and run these Cooper 255/85/16.....33" narrow tire. These things are the bees knees. What a great tire.

I wouldnt run 33s with the 3b... they are too big IMO.
31s are alot more fun and make 5th more useable

Ive had these 16 in rims on all 3 7* series Ive owned. I run 235x85/16 tyres with them and will never change. I currently have Cooper Discoverys on there now. Similar tread
