Let's discuss tires for a BJ75

Hello,

33x12.5x15 are a bit too wide in my book.

I would go with 235/85/16 or 255/70/16.

Another vote for 235/85R-16. Got 'em on my Troopy and love them. I've never gone for big, fat tires on 4x4's. They might be fun, and some folks think they look cool, but I can't see any advantage in most situations, and usually they're a disadvantage IME.

Of course, you'd need to upgrade to 16" rims.

Which opens you up to a heap of new tyres sizes. The old 15 inch rim is only found on older 4x4 now. The shops around me don't even keep them in stock.

I think something similar is happening to 16s too. BFG does not do a 33x12.50x16 in their new K03 All Terrain tires. Seems strange.....I thought that was a really common tire size. I think things are trending towards the 18s and 20s.

Hello,

Aside from hardcore 33/35 inch tyres/tires users, 15 inch rims are becoming rare in my neck of the woods as well.

When I looked for 33x12.5x16 tires/tyres, I could not find them either. I was advised to use 235/85/16 instead.

There is also the 17 inch rim option. Last week I saw a 235/85/16 equivalent with a 17 inch rim, a Bridgestone Dueler A/T if I remember correctly; it looked good.

Thanks for the replies everyone! Main reason I didn't make the jump up to 16" is for two reasons; in my area, i had the choice between trailer rims(ugly) or prohibitively expensive factory toyota rims.

With that said, I have made a decision. I've gone with 31x10.5r15 Yokohama Geolandar mt g003. That size is easy to find muddies where I live, and the price was just right for 5 tires.

Thanks for all the input!

That size threw my speedo out by about 10%. They were good in the suburbs, made it get away a bit quicker and the brakes worked better

That's exactly what I'm going for. I won't do a turbo until I can service the engine and tune it up, so the smaller size is to compensate for the forklift engine

I didn't notice any comments on what the truck will be primarily used for.

If primarily a daily driver, then tires close to original would be best. Plan on any wheeling, then larger tires to gain clarence.

My LJ77 came with 245/75/16 (30.5 x 9.6). I do plan to do some wheeling and will be adding a lift and will go with 255/85/16 (32.8 x 10.2).

For whatever reason, 33 x10's seem to look best for most older Land Cruisers, IMHO.

Progress update! 31x10.5r15 Yokohama Geolandar MT. Love the new look, I hate fat tires.

The truck will primarily be used for touring and day trips to some more challenging stuff

285/70R17 is my next set for my HZJ73. Ideal size I think. Good weight rating since these things weigh so much, decently wide and lots and lots of choices for tread and brands

My BJ75 Troopy sits on 235/85 R16 tires mounted on split rims. Perfect solution.

I thought there was a 35/10.5/15? From Interco?
Expensive and don't want a super swamper
Try a 305?
Need to stay at 35". I need 4" of lift for the Cummins so I want to take up at much wheel well as I can.

I have 255/85 mounted on 70 series steelies on my BJ. I will be putting them on just to see what it looks like with a skinny but they aren't the right backspacing and also a 33" tire.

I like the 235/85 R16 because it gives an overall 32" OD. Perfect for the gearing and excellent without doing any lift. My Troopy won't be doing any serious offroading.

Everyone ends up back at the 235's
