Stevensnj is correct. The headlight housing is what dictates the "throw" of light. Its problematic with the HIDs and the stock housing because since they are diffused, the light is "thrown" in the same direction as it would factory but at a much higher intensity, hence the name HID. I'm not sure if there is a specific amount of lumens until you should switch to projector lenses but you can always experiment on your own. Increase the number of lumens until you have had enough people :flipoff2: you off.

right, so do the led bulbs like this one also require projector headlight lenses? that is the question I am trying to answer.

Well on each bulb they are marked 2000lm 2000x2 bulbs is 4000 lumens total.

Yeh they make 6400lm set so 3200lm each. so should be sufficient i would think
These are what I decided to try out they are the "new 2014!!!" 3200lm each type.

They were 125. Per set. I got them for both high and low beams. You can find them cheaper if you go on ebay. I was about to get some for 90 a set. They ship right from China though and I wanted mine before the end of next week. So I was okay with paying more for a US seller that wouldn't have to take weeks to get them delivered. They actually delivered today. Which is two days after I paid. So that's cool.

Interested to hear how well these last.

Hopefully they last pretty long. Definitely interested on seeing how the OPs hold up and compared to the Lifetime LED brand and the ones I got. May start a new thread on this subject! Something tells me they all came off the same assembly line in Asia though so I suspect they will be generally the same in terms of quality.

So I had a long day just trying to adjust the headlights, the Y axis adjuster didn't work on either side so I had to remove the headlight and remove the adjuster and adjust it while holding the whole headlight unit in place, adjust, then hold in place. So it took a while. Anywhoo Someone asked if the fans run all the time and they do. The color temperature has to be a little lower than 6000k , it's actually just right. The colors on the street signs at night are cool to see now...lol but they have a much better left and right spread too. So far I'm impressed. The no driver option for these make them a great plug and play. Not to see how long they last...turing on the brights is horrible. I will have to get the 9005 Highs next.

As far as being all the same, they have a generic sticker on the back so these will be bought, re labeled, repackaged and sold for like $150. I just cut out the middleman and right to the supplier in China. $60 isn't bad at all.

So they pretty much have the same beam pattern as regular bulbs?

Definitely interested in the 3200lm high beams that locknload got. Make sure to update when you get them installed!

Can you post some white wall shots? I'm interested in the beam pattern. High intensity light sources like HID and LED typically do not work well in reflectors designed for halogen bulbs. The 80's diffused lens on the headlight only scatters the light more making things worse.

that's the info I was looking for as well..........

Exactly my thoughts. After looking at the options for the last couple weeks the only difference I can find is in the warranty and price. As much as I like to support American companies I just can't see paying 110% markup for the exact same Chinese product to do so.

If the OP is okay with me doing the post here I can definitely do so. Otherwise I won't hijack the thread any more then I already have!

Feel free to pm me then or if you decide to make your own thread pm me a link. Trying to decide between these or a Light bar.

I may be able to do that tonight, no promises though.

Well I couldn't find a white wall so I used a brick wall. Has a very distinct line to the top of the beams, The right side is out of adjustment but driver side is okay X Y axis. I was about 10-12 feet away when i took this. The bight center spot wasn't visible in person. The camera caught that.

These look interesting. I may give them a try when my current bulbs die out.

I have the HIR's in both low and high beams, and very rarely get flashed at night by oncoming drivers. When they do, sometimes I just flash them back to show that those are NOT my high beams. THESE are

Yes, more info on yours as well. Another thread or here if the OP doesn't mind...

Very, very interesting. Probably like most of us, mine look like the PS on the brick wall photo! They are getting very, very dull and yellow. I think I may have replaced the original bulbs with similar at least once in 20 years of ownership, but quite frankly I don't remember!
