I think at this rate Yoshiwara is as packed as can be. Probably can't add any more even if they wanted to. 71/76/78 is still made at Yoshiwara but they moved the LC79 single/dual cab to a nearby factory (Toyota auto body Fujimatsu plant) and the Toyota coaster which was also produced at TAB Yoshiwara was moved to Gifu auto body a few years ago.And then they could free up space at Yoshiwara to make more 70s and ship them to Europe.

parts are plentiful as it has been in production since late 1997 and is pretty much the same platform that made its debut in the late 80s ( Y60 ). However it is being discontinued this month. Loss of a legend.I like those too. I've thought about it. Not familiar with them is the only problem. How's parts for those?

When I saw the 250 numbers, I thought there could be a change in the works, makes sense if you are Toyota!I think there are plenty of Toyota/Lexus products that will continue to be made at capacity in that plant and in Japan in general. Most importantly our beloved Land Cruisers, which are sold out for the foreseeable future, as the 250 will also be.
Toyota has a significant opportunity/goal to increase GX/Prado production/volume and that capacity has to come from somewhere.
Which, just as a guess and a having been a student of the industry for 3+ decades, capacity could come from shifting a new 4Runner product to be manufactured elsewhere, not to reduce production in Japan, just to switch it to other products, while also reducing 4Runner costs or at least offsetting some of the significant investment that is needed for new technology.
I emphasize, this is a guess, I have never heard or read this is planned!!!
BTW4Runner is about half of production volume at Tahara. It accounts for roughly 1/3 of the global BOF SUV production. LC300+150+70 < 400,000. Possibly unpopular (and possibly wrong?) guess here; Toyota doesn't have enough demand for LC300,250/70 to sell an additional 150k units per year. Possibly for one year or two. Not for the next 10. Unless Toyota can backfill the production demand with a new model (FJ Cruiser??) the 4Runner will probably stay at Tahara.
We know the Landcruiser FJ is going to be released in Japan in December of this year, so maybe that model will fill the void at Tahara. It is going to potentially be a high volume product. We just do not know if it will be sold outside of Japan to know just how many units they will require. It might not fit a US profile but there are many places it will. It is a Suzuki Jimney rival and those sell very well in the EU.Unless Toyota can backfill the production demand with a new model (FJ Cruiser??) the 4Runner will probably stay at Tahara.

I think a big part of the USA popularity is that it was effectively the only vehicle in a popular segment. The USA doesn't have the Ford Everest, Pajero, etc. And if you limit the price range to under $50k USD, it eliminates all of the full size options too. I think it was in part just due to the 4Runner being the last man standing in that vehicle class in the USA and the old pathfinder, Xterra, Explorer, Jimmy/Blazer, buyers ended up going to the 4Runner.BTW
At its peak the 150 actually sold close to 150k units annually globally.
To see the 250 break that record eventually (maybe not initially due to shortages?) Is totally possible.

Nissan is coming out with a US market Xterra to compete with the 4Runner. Should be out in 2 years but like typical Nissans it'll never outsell the Toyota.
